apoligize in advance if this topic has been covered before (im sure it has), but all the words are so common I cant filter through the search and come up with an answer.

This will be my first year hunting, and Ive received a lot of great information, and even met some great people already on this site in my short time being here.

My question pertains to new hunters trying to wiggle in on crown land that some people figure they own because theyve hunted on it for so long.

Ive got an antlerless tag for 53A, and a regular buck tag for the year, and am located in Orillia. I dont mind travelling, I dont mind bush wacking, and look forward to getting out there this year. I will be at school this year, which is a full-year paramedic program (52 weeks straight), so I won't have the ability to go out for a week in the wilderness, and come back... Ill be relying on getting out on the weekends (head up Friday night, trek in to an area, set up a hooch, and wake early on saturday and head home sunday night if saturday isnt successful).
That being said, school for me doesnt end until 6pm in Barrie, and Id like to stay relatively close to home to make the most of my time be in the bush.
I have someone who has offered to take me out in 53A, and I am very grateful for that, but one of the main reasons for getting into hunting is to explore. Id also like to try a few different WMUs in the proximity (was thinking 56, 57, and/or 60)

I'd love to have my own land to hunt on, and have been looking into it already - but it wont be happening for a couple years at least (schooling, job probations when/if I get a job out of school and a current mortgage).
Im not looking to piss anyone off in the process of hunting, and I want as little complications as possible, but is there any new hunters that have experienced problems with getting in on crown land and being hasseled?

As far as I know, its first come, first serve on the land... but it seems some people are very territorial of land they dont own, but think they do.
Example: I am also a 4x4er - jeeps and a samurai. I obey the rules, part of the OF4WD, and abide by the trail rules and only do the trails provided on the trail maps supplied by OF4WD. I figured since its my first year hunting, going out to a 4x4 spot located near an area I would like to hunt on and getting a day of 4xin in, and some scouting would be awesome. While scouting, come across someone claiming the land is theirs. Check maps, check coordinates... everything points to crown and I explain myself.

Regardless, I leave as I dont want to infringe, but is this a common practise for people to deteer new people from coming in on someones spot? Will I see more of this as I go out scouting, and the season approaches faster? Are there ways to go about it... or should I just nod my head, agree and walk away, and come back another day?

You'll find that some people can be UBER protective of what they consider their hunting spot, Crown Land or not.

Stolen treestands, trail cameras, vandalizing your camp-truck etc... I've had gear of mine vandalized... ####ed up ####.

So my advice is to try to locate country nobody else is in, and avoid the #######s and BS.

I agree. The best way to avoid bs is too scout some areas beforehand and find land away from other hunters.

Actually in BC it is illegal to "impeed" any one who is lawfully hunting and I can carry my shotgun anytime I wish in the bush, for protection from wildlife. (just had to throw that in for the guys back east) ;)

BC is no different from any other province, I bet all 10 have the same law.

Good luck getting someone charged. I bet more people get struck by lightening in Canada than charged with impeding a hunt.

Some will tell you they have exclusive rights to an area. Not true.

Question Re: Property Rights on Crown Land
Do the hunt clubs have an exclusive right to post and prevent others from hunting on crown land? If they do have the exclusive right, how does one register a hunt territory with MNR or which ever department?

Answer:
Hunt clubs DO NOT have the right to post and prevent others from hunting on Crown Land. Anyone giving false notice without authority is in contravention of the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act and liable to a penalty of up to $25,000.00.

What. The. Hell. I'm in BC, never seen anything like that, just retarded. Out here you get waves and smiles. I suggest moving.

Im from the wonderful province of BC, and miss it dearly. However, I just left Alberta to come to Ontario (not my choice *cough* the misses *cough*) and regret that.

I dont understand why some people in Ontario think its so damn great... Not to be an #######, but this is the ####tiest place Ive lived so far.

Who says it's great? I'm from here and think it's a shiite hole. But then I have lived in SK and AB too.

Some say its great, not all. Lots of the people Ive come across down in the city thing Toronto is the center of the freaking universe, and the end-all, be-all of Canada/World. And my gf loves it here for some unknown reason, as well as her entire family, so I dont forsee me convincing her to move anytime soon.

Either way, off topic from the original post, I will continue to do scouting and avoid this ass-hats as best I can. Out of all the crown available, theres gotta be somewhere for lil ol' me to set up a stand.

Crown Land is Public property. :D You have as much right to be there as anyone else and don't let them tell you differently. They wanna be stubborn, call the fish cops. In Alberta, it's illegal to interfere with anyone legally hunting.

Grizz

Ontario is a very nice place geographically. The main problem is there are just to dam many people living in the southern half of the province. Especially if you are within a 2 to 3 hr commute of Toronto. Alot of Toronto folks are venturing north and buying property, or using the available crown land.
Just makes for very crowded unpleasant conditions at times for all concerned.

Living where Iam because we are at the south end of Georgian Bay I swear half the population of Toronto comes to visit my area every weekend.
So the etiquite I have always had the best luck with is first come first served on crown land. I aways do some scouting and try to locate where others are not so apt to be.

I knew it was a shiite hole when I lived there. It wasn't until I moved away that I realized just how much of a shiite hole....:D

There are approx. four million people in all of BC, most between Hope and Vancouver. Lost of country to share. Less people means less problems.

In Manitoba(and I assume other provinces) even leased crown land is open for public hunting unless its occupied by a livestock operation and then it has to be posted with specific signage stating the reason its not open to public hunting

In Alberta, it's illegal to interfere with anyone legally hunting.

Same in Ont.....

This is where the problem arises for the most part.. The majority of hunting on Crown is done by doing drives, by men, or dog...Other hunters take advatage of this by strolling right into an obvious oganized drive, past watchers in attempt to block them off, and get first shot at an oncoming deer...

I have hunted with atleast 10 gangs over the years, and this has always been the case....All other camps/gangs on Crown complain about this very issue...

Koesdibyo,

If you are a member of the OFAH you can hunt on the tracts of land that are Simcoe County forests. Go to the OFAH website and check it out.
