Hey guys,

I did a search and found a topic like this back from 2008ish but it didn't have much information, so I figured I'd ask this again as I've seen a bunch of us are from the Vancouver area.

Where are some good spots (crown land) to go shoot in the lower mainland or what's the best way to go about finding those spots on my own?

I only know the areas close to me, in Abbotsford BC, there's Foley Lake service road and Slyvester Road areas for sure where you can shoot, defs more than an hour away from you though man, takes me an hour to get there :)

I've heard bad things about Sylvester Road - is it safe to go shooting up there? I'm also looking for somewhere in the lower mainland to do some skeet shooting (have all my own equipment).

Looking to go on March 11th, but have not decided where. Is Foley Lake alright?

I don't mind driving a couple of hours to find a great spot, but GPS coords or google maps of a nice location would be awesome!

I've got memberships at two local ranges (POCO and DVC), but sometimes it's just really, really nice to be outdoors away from everything.

Any ideas?

Sylvester Rd is a bit of a dump but lots of places to shoot. The best/safest place is 4 km up the gravel road and turn right. You need a truck and probably 4x4, drive up 250 yards and if the place is empty it's all yours. It's a one group spot with one way in one way out.

I'll be the guy in the red truck who got there five minutes before you. :D

If that's taken turn to the left, there's three more spots. If it's busy or you get there late those spots are taken. Keep driving up the road and you'll find places everywhere, but don't try it if you're driving a slammed Civic.

Bring all your papers and expect to see C.O. or Mission RCMP.

What should I make sure of when shooting out in the bush?

Obviously have all documentation.
Draw up a line of fire.
Safe backdrop.
Pick up garbage when done.

Anything else I should definitely remember?

Hello,
I'm going to be around Lake Cowichan during the summer holidays. I was wondering if there was any Crown Land there that I would be able to practice target shooting with a .308 non-restricted rifle. I do not have a hunter's license either. Or is there a club nearby within 30minutes driving distance? I'll be at the lower tip of the Lake. Thanks! I tried googling.. as well but Cowichan Gun and Fish website doesn't seem to be working...

When I lived in the lower mainland in Langley years ago I used to take the ferry across the Fraser river and head up into the mountains around the Stave lake dam area and find a new road every time until I found a nice safe place to shoot. I recommend getting a BackRoads map book to help you scout for places to go.

Hell I even met a great guy out there in the boonies that became a weekend shooting buddy. Lost his info over the years unfortunately.

I like to take a tarp to set up if it rains so I doesn't cut the day short. I also use it to lay on the ground to help collect my spent brass for reloading. And a pen and paper to write down the other things that you forgot to bring for next time

Most importantly ALL of your trigger lock keys. You will forget them once.....it sucks

I'm heading up to Foley lake in a couple of weeks, any spot in particular you'd recommend? And is shooting the lake a no-no? (I only ask because there were a hell of a lot of shell casings lying around when I went camping).

LOTS of good places along Chilliwack Lake Road, just be aware of the 800 meters from the main road rule when you pass the Prison approaching Chipmunk Creek Road.

Figure B3 & B4

The quarry areas just before the Prison are OK for shooting as the figures in that link show PAST the prison. (Some say no trespassing, some do not, act accordingly.)

I shoot there a lot and many others do as well, lots of great backstops and everyone is very good at communicating with others as to what direction they are firing and who is around.

A few years back we went camping north of Squamish, there wer numerous areas littered with shot gun shells so I assume hunters up there and locals blowing off rounds for fun. It was the Squamish valley service road, left off 99 near Alice lake. I think it's actually brakendale. Road was ok for most of the way then it got a little bumpy, but it was still ok for cars or regular 4x4' you would not need a vehicle with lift.

The locals want it gone didn't like it when people were shooting signs towards peoples houses looks like bush but isn't they want to take that area away if they can. The town just doesn't know what it can do about it...

They also complain that it sounds like a warzone down the road. Some people drink and drive in that area not the best area squamish.

Where we were was far from town, about an hour up the service road. Nowhere near the town. Ther were some nice clearing over looking the Squamish river. No houses for many miles. Hunters on atv's and a lot of people looking to camp in the bush. So many shot gun shells it looks like a war zone, but hey, that's what your looking for, right?

Does anyone know if you can legally shoot west of Stave Lake off Burma Street around Devils Lake??
Looking for a place to shoot at this coming Sunday.
