Crown on my 455

Just wondering if this is normal for a 455 lux. The crown seems a bit strange to me.

its hard to tell but part of the crown is smooth and the other part looks like its filed at an angle. I looked at my old mossberg 341 and my winchester 94 and both seemed to have very smooth crowns. Should I be calling in for warranty, I just bought this gun on the weekend.
 
Yes I bought it on the weekend brand new, went out and put about 250 rounds through it, was just about to take the bolt apart when I inspected the crown and noticed this...
 
If you can return it for another, I would. Thats just me, because I'm the annoying guy at the counter that makes a employee go in the back room to bring out 6 of the same rifles for me to pick through, until I find one that is flawless.

If they won't exchange it, then I would try to get a hold of CZ directly & talk to them. If they don't exchange the rifle, then they probably will replace the barrel. Warranty would cover a manufacture defect.

If the gunshop you bought it from won't exchange it, then I would be surprised though.
 
on rimfirecentral their is posts of guys sending 455s back to cz usa and haveing the crown re-done under warranty.
 
I've been reading the same thing, I'm going to try and get an exchange at the store because I don't want to have to wait 4-12 weeks for my gun to travel over the border and back, who knows what will happen to it. I think I'll have to tell the guy at the store that I haven't fired it yet though.

Be honest, most of the times, its really easy to tell if its an unfired rifle or not...
Since there is no blue wear on the crown, he can't tell you that you damage the rifle...

I'm sure they will fix your problem.

CZ warranty work is handled by CRAFM in Montreal, not by CZ USA.

I have the same issue with my 455. Though mine is not as bad? as yours. Mine looks more like a slight chip. It is the 455 Varmint. It fires great still. I still have not decided if I am going to send it in. The contact above can be found on the CZ website

Yeah I bought it from wholesale sports, they asked if I fired the rifle and I said yes, then they said they cant do anything for me but send it in to warranty. They sell me a defective gun and wont replace it because I shot 100 rounds through it. Even though the guns are shot at the factory so they sold me a fired gun to begin with.

That will just take more time to have it back :p
But since they have a CZ warranty center in Canada, it should be relatively fast, i mean faster than if you ship it to the states...

Just checked my new 455 Varmint to see if this is a trend, I have yet to fire it yet but mine looks perfect.

I sent a gun in for warranty recently, but a Marlin not a CZ it was sent to Quebec but to a different depot for repair. The repair took all 8 days and I had word it was back at the shop I bought it at. Just to put your mind at ease I don't believe turnaround time is too bad.

It will be back in your possession good as new before you know it.
 
Call me crazy but that almost looks like lead fouling... notice how in the second picture at the top it almost looks like material "spills over" past the crown.

Personally I have had extreme issues with leading from as little as three hundred rounds of unplated/jacketed ammo. Although I believe the rate of fire and heating of the bore has a large part to play in that.

Hmm. Although I've not seen that before, even on my 452 Varmint, I think that it's worth another look. I'd try scraping the crown with a fingernail or other soft scraper...just to be sure it isn't lead.
