So at great expense I imported a Lee 2 cavity mold from the USA, and am looking forward to powdercoating some bullets and giving it a go. Has anyone done this? have they managed to get accuracy above 1700 fps in military barrels?

there is a powder coating section with lots of great results. i've had great success pistol wise, but don't have easy access to a rifle range to try out my powder coated bullets. when i get around to it i plan to use powder coat in my ar15.

If you want to take up paper patching, you could get full jacketed speeds if not a little higher..

I know less than nothing about paper patching, I have powder coated bullets for the 45/70. I imagined that paper patched bullets had to be a bit undersized. Is that correct?

I have two two cavity and at least one old one cavity that I bought from MidSouth. They were cheap in cost and shipping at the time. How has that changed?

The cruise missle lee bullet gas a reputation as being a frustrating pita . Not to bad in the carcano at lower velocities . But try to push the speed at accuracy goes out the window. Also doesn't work well in the 6.5x55 . This isn't personal experience just what I have read at cast boolit forum in my research . I have the mold and a carcano but haven't tried it myself yet

Yes. If using Hilroy onion skin tracing paper, you need to be 8 thou smaller than the end diameter... The end diameter is 1-2 thou larger than the bore. I have pushed paper patched 45-70 bullets well and thoroughly faster than book loads for jacketed with that method...

I had a custom 4 cavity NOE mold made in .269 because carcano barrels are actually .268 not .264 like most 6.5 rifles, I then had a custom size die made and I get 1 1/2" groups at 125 yards. I'm happy and start your loading at the bare minimum and work your way up a grain at a time till you find that sweet spot

A couple of years ago I bought a Lee Cruise Missile mould (170 gr. /6.5) with the intention of building up a Cat Sneeze load .
I poured a bunch of bullets....pure lead /wheel weights /and experimented with pouring dual hardness bullets(soft nose hard body) but after reading a lot on CastBoolits I've decided to go strictly pure lead (soft) because they shouldn't deform at sub-sonic speeds . Also if I use a good lube (deer fat) I shouldn't get any barrel leading at these speeds .
Even though I have a few 6.5 cal. rifles (Swedish, Japanese etc.) I haven't loaded and shot these bullets yet .
I have a 29 " barreled Swedish Mauser (semi-custom) that I'm leaning towards....or a heavy barreled (CG96 ?) target rifle . Both in 6.5 x 55 .

Any progress? I haven't pressed a thing, but casting is the direction I'm heading in. Not too many cast 6.5 threads.
