Crusader Arms 9mm AR180 made in Windsor, Ontario.

In his shooting video comments, I asked John Doe a question and received the following Crusader 9 feedback:

Love the rifle finish! Is that an MCR Galil-style stock? Haven't seen much feedback in the Crusader 9; it looks like it ran well in the video. Any issues? How are the ergonomics and build quality? Thanks!

"Thank you.. I have videos of the cru9 and mcr being painted. And yes it is the mcr stock. The cru 9 uses the spec180 lower (edit from Ustauk, uses the pin offset Spec189 lower), as for issues. Had some when it was brand new. Typical of new guns. But is running great now. The ergonomics are good minus the mag release. It's a paddle style in front of the mag. Build quality like a mcr."

Have you ever been slapped in the face? Shoot a crusader and you can say you have. Worst 9mm carbine I've shot to date.

This crusader9 rifle, with the 9mm upper installed, shot over 2000 rounds🔥🔥🔥🔥 saturday June the 4th without a single stoppage...this thing runs....this made in🇨🇦 Canada🇨🇦 rifle, made by @crusaderarmscompany @spectre_ltd is an ar180 based semi auto non restricted rifle, available in 9mm or 5.56nato, with interchangeable uppers as shown. Both uppers have installed primary arms prism optics, 1x micro prism on the 9, and 5x prism on the 5.56.

Looks like both the Crusader Arms and K9 are in stock at Tenda.
Had a quick look at the Crusader Arms but no hold open!!
Didn’t see the K9 so they must have got it within last week. Curious to see it now?
But Folks don’t forget the Lockhart Raven is in the game too!!
Got a Geissele 3gun that would stuff that Raven nicely.

The Crusader Arms Liberator 9mm upper has a non-reciprocating charging handle and can be locked open (and HK slapped to close), but does not lock back on an empty magazine.

Not sure how many PCCs actually do lock back on empty mags. The Crusader 9 with the DCC package is not intended to do so - the Spectre [edit to correct name] LTD service team confirmed that it was not a feature that they designed for with the swappable magazine well adaptor.

Also, I think some parts of the Templar are now made in the States. Not sure if any parts of the Crusader 9 are made outside of Canada now.

I own the Dual Calibre Combo (DCC) package, which includes the 9mm Liberator upper and the 5.56mm Sentinel upper.

Both are very heavy - 8.7 lbs for the 9mm when assembled with the lower, 9.2 lbs with the 5.56mm.

It shoots with very little felt recoil in 9mm. I have no idea what someone who posted earlier claiming it was like being slapped in the face is talking about.

I have just under 400 rounds of 9mm through and 300 rounds of 5.56mm. Range time is limited but I'll slowly increase those numbers.

Happy with it so far, but the design sacrifices light weight for flexibility to operate both as a 5.56mm rifle and a 9mm PCC. If you don't need 9mm shooting, grab the Templar, the product-improved 5.56mm rifle from Crusader Arms, or wait to check out the BCL Siberian. Or, if you want to really go big, spend $2700-3000 for the Tavor X95 or try to wait (possibly forever) for a Bren 2ms NR ($3500+). If you want only 9mm, there are lighter and cheaper PCCs, such as the JR Carbine, FX-9 or Ruger PCC. I like the ability to shoot and practice with both calibres in the same platform on my Crusader 9 DCC, especially with the product upgrade TriggerTech 2.5-5 lbs adjustable trigger on the lower.

Some people will make the argument that it might be possible to get a PCC and a rifle calibre carbine for less than the price of the Crusader 9 DCC ($2400 CAD when it was on sale + $250 for the upgrade package with the TriggerTech trigger group and the Magpul MOE furniture), but I think you would be hard pressed to buy both a new 5.56mm rifle and a 9mm PCC of reasonable quality for a combined total of $2400. On the other hand, if you bought a WK180 for $1500 and a JR PCC for $1200, you'd have both a rifle and a PCC at the same time for $2700 (+tax), instead of something that you'd have to swap out uppers in with the single lower. So... you have to evaluate how you want to shoot and what you value.

That's a decision you should make for yourself. A lot of people passed on the idea of the DCC - I bought in - so far, I'm glad I did.

It may not have been posted yet because Spectre LTD seems to have made it for an outfit called Crusader Arms, which is not a forum vendor to my knowledge. I'm not sure if this is Spectre Ltd trying to go through its own retail channel, since they've previously built the MCR for Wolverine. Their Galil folder didn't receive much coverage here until Wolverine started selling it with full rifles, since Spectre Ltd is not a forum vendor, either. Until the vendor is confirmed as a forum supporter, forum rules dictate no direct links can be posted, though you can name the retailer and item, and people can search from there on their own.

As an aside, this also explains why Spectre LTD was reluctant to provide uppers to True North Arms for their MCR 9mm conversion kit, as their upper foundry was busy trying to craft the Crusader. Hopefully a forum vendor like Wolverine will be given the opportunity to sell whole units, and the builder kits, which include the upper and lower, but no trigger, stock or pistol grip with for use with re-homing parts from safe queens. It hasn't been announced, but I suspect they also eventually make upper kits with magwell adapters available, so people can either get a spare upper for their MCR, or find a use fro their pre-Spec 180 MCR lowers.

Specter Arms is not in any way affiliated with this project. Can confirm as I personally know the owner/operators of SA for many years. Spectre LTD and Specter Arms are two different companies as well.
