Crusader Arms Sentinel 5.56 Info, Feedback, and Builds, made by Spectre LTD

Yup, though they have confirmed on Instagram that the Crusader 5.56 upper will not fit the MCR or WK lower.

Yeah, sadly...

There could be a purpose to Crusader firearms being a separate lineage. By starting as a 9 mm PCC platform that happened to get a 5.56 upper available for it, while making both incompatible with WK and MCR, any named specific action to mark the WK and/or MCR as prohibited in an OIC or FRT change would not affect the Crusader, since it is a new, unrelated firearm.

Hmmm think Spectre is aware of some info that has yet to be released? Not going to be happy if the MCR gets the ban.

Not necessarily any knowledge, but is prudent of them to make their own product line that they could continue to manufacture and distribute as Crusader, should their more well known offering being distributed by a site sponsor in litigation with the government draw fire from the government.

That might make sense if their 9mm started as a dedicated 9mm lower BUT it didn't. Their 9mm started as a standard 5.56 lower with a magwell adapter.

That gun is uglier than all the WKs and WSs combined.

The only 180s that look half decent are the WK180 Gen 2 and that rifle from The Shooting Edge.

It wouldn't be expandable/convertible with a 9mm magwell, would it. You'd be permanently stuck with 9mm and 40 S&W. Maybe they also recognized that no matter what you call it, what you base it on, how you design it, or what you make it from, eventually it will be banned.

The Code of Arms guys got the pleasure of shooting 1309 rounds through the Crusader 9 .223 upper with the guys at Crusader. Of note, there were no issues with any mags, including Magpul, Cross Mags, and Steel LAR mags. Also of note is the inclusion of a bolt catch/release with the 5.56 upper, and that upper has a beefier, more weighty piston to take more abuse the even the MCR's. They will be doing a limited run of 5.56 uppers and 9 mm/5.56 combo kits, and then will start 5.56 complete rifle production. https://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/2270670-CoA-1300-Rd-Crusader-223-testing?p=18852803#post18852803

That's good news. I've wanted to pick one of these up for a while (as it basically just seems to be an improved WS-MCR with an enclosed upper) but have zero interest in NR length 9mm carbines/PCCs.

Will the 5.56 upper fit onto a standard MCR Gen 1 or Gen 2 lower?

No, they made the locking pins different, though otherwise the Spec 180 lower for the MCR and the Spec 189 for the Crusader appear identical. The pins were made so that if anyone bans the MCR by name, Crusader can honestly say their Crusader 9 5.56 is an alternate upper for the Crusader 9 9 mm, and therefore has nothing to do with the MCR.

Lets be honest here, I'm pretty sure they made it that way so you'd have to buy a whole new rifle from them. If they think that when the MCR gets banned that every other "AR-180" won't also get banned they're on glue.

I will post pics and more info when I get home, but the complete 5.56 rifle has been announced for pre-order, under the name Sentinel. The price is $1799.99 for the Comp with the Triggertech trigger, and $1599 for the standard version, https://www.crusaderarms.ca/s/search?q=Sentinel.

Crusader said:
The Crusader Arms "SENTINEL" is a 5.56 dedicated complete rifle.

The Rifle is the combination of the Crusader 9 patterned lower (minus the 9mm Maxwell adapter) and the Crusader 5.56 upper. The 5.56 Upper operates with 3/8 Piston Mid/Rifle length Gas system for ultimate reliability and durability while allowing the gun to run clean with limited amount of carbon in the action. The buffer tube is not required to function the rifle there fore aftermarket folding adapters can work with this rifle. The Charging handle is Ambi and non-reciprocating.

The "STANDARD" MODEL has 13 M-LOK positions on either side of the fore-end and an additional 5 on the bottom for a total of 31 positions. In addition the rifle offers a full 1913 Milspec rail the full length of the Monolithic upper. The Sentinel also has a Bolt catch and release lever on the left side of the rifle. The furniture on the rifle is a Generic Brand Buttstock and Grip and also comes with 1- 5.56 magazine.

These rifles will begin to ship May 23rd

I confirmed with Crusade/Spectre LTD on Instagram that the piston is too thick fit the piston port on an MCR or WK, so it will not be sold separately as an upgrade. I have also received confirmation the piston is mid length.

Spectre has also confirmed on Instagram you can use the bolts from the MCR and AR180 B, and AR180B barrels on the Crusader. If someone is able to pull from an MCR or order a 7.62x39 mm/Valkyrie MCR bolt, they should be able to build a rifle with a mid length gas port barrel in those calibres, as well as Grendel or 6 mm ARC.

I got to play with the production version on Saturday thanks to Code of Arms. It’s a bit heavy but it’s well built and the charging handle is awesome. Sure it’s not as pretty as an AR or a lot of other rifles but if you like the SCAR platform, this didn’t feel far off.
