Crusader Arms Sentinel 5.56 Info, Feedback, and Builds, made by Spectre LTD

The Sentinel is both sealed against debris and has a thick probably non-snapping mid length piston at a similar price point to the WK Gen 2. It will be interesting to see if people will overlook the looks to go with the Sentinel's robust design. I myself think it looks great for Larping Halo or Starship Troopers during a match, plus the monolithic upper looks strong enough a Gears of War-style chainsaw bayonet may be possible :)

Of note is the brass deflector, missing from the WK Gen 2.

The Crusader in 9 was definitely a bit large and unwieldy. Looks to be far more reasonable as a 5.56.

Does anyone know if the Sentinel 5.56 uses AR barrels?

From upthread:

Spectre has also confirmed on Instagram you can use the bolts from the MCR and AR180 B, and AR180B barrels on the Crusader. If someone is able to pull from an MCR or order a 7.62x39 mm/Valkyrie MCR bolt, they should be able to build a rifle with a mid length gas port barrel in those calibres, as well as Grendel or 6 mm ARC.

I believe the above means they can take any barrel with a mid-length gas port, though you may want to avoid pencil barrels, as having the gas block and piston a bit further out at mid-length could cause some harmonics that may affect accuracy; if you don't care about being as precise, the tradeoff for a pencil barrel's weight may be acceptable to you. Good luck with whatever you intend!

And who is selling this toy ...what business has them???
Please do tell

Available at site sponsor NAS Guns and Ammo (though I would contact the directly if they can assign a serial to your own name prior to the 18th) and directly from Crusader Arms web site.

i like it except, that goofy magwell! i just can’t buy another rifle like that… even if the angle was squared up it would be a huge improvement! other than that, it’s cool imo

I would talk to both True North Arms and Spectre LTD. TNA made a printed magwell insert that was both straight angle and flared for the WK. They should be able to modify it for the MCR and Crusader magwell if there's demand. Spectre LTD should be able to modify there 9 mm insert for a straight STANAG adapter.

I wonder if there's enough sales if the Crusader Sentinel, I wonder if TNA could modify there enhanced WK lower to fit it? You would lose the ability to use a Crusader 9 upper with Glock mags, but you would get a straight angle magwell and the ability to use AR-15 trigger pins and safety cylinders.

i’ve been thinking about all the 180 options currently available that appeal to me and, the TNA upper and lower combo is nice. as is the WK gen2. now, if i win the lotto i’m all over that R18! cheers

I you don't mind a blocky looking firearm, and especially if you have a now prohibited AR-15, ATRS 5.56, Maccabee or BCL firearm to use as a donor, remember the Jard J180 has a straight magwell, and allows the re-use of the barrel, gas tube, gas block, and handguard from a donor rifle. Sylvestre still has build kits available, and they could be in possession pre registry/database.

There is no way in Hell that I would build the Jard version of the AR-180B. That guy makes the ugliest guns known to mankind, period. I've seen smoother-looking Lego guns for Chrissakes. No Thanks!

Agreed, the aesthetics aren't the nicest. But I find it's hybrid dual Stoner design cool, and some people may be willing to overlook the appearance for that. To each their own. It will be sweet when SBI finishes their DI BCG, then you can have the gas tube fed 180 in a more eye-pleasing and ergonomic package.

I wonder if the SBI DI BCG would work with the Crusader with modification? Would you have to shim the tube with some tape where it enters the Sentinel's wider piston port? Only time will tell.

Received my Sentinel today.

Looks pretty good in hand overall. Seems well built and put together. Definitely hefty with that big monolithic upper.

Haven't put any rounds through it yet but overall pleased.

Thanks for the feedback! Please let us know how the recoil impulse is with the mid length piston, contrasting with a WK or MCR if you have experience with their carbine length pistons. Thanks!

Unfortunately I don't have an MCR/WK to compare against. I'll certainly update once it gets its range day.

Thanks! Others have said the fit and finish of the Sentinel is a bit rough. How is the finish on yours? What are your visual and tactile impressions? Thanks!
