Oh man do I need help. I'm using RCBS FL die and Partner Press to size my 300wm Rem and Win once fired brass (Browning Bar). I have screwed the die down to touch the shell holder at top of press stroke. I have then turned the die down a further 1/8 turn. When I size the brass I can feel the stroke cycle past the top - just slightly. The result is, and not on every case, a crushing of the shoulder or a small dent on the body near the shoulder. The cases are the correct length.
I purchased the press and dies used from EE. The press seems tight. There is no play in the linkages or the piston. There is a little play in the shell holder, which I would expect. I measured the die - the best I could with vernier - the distance from the base to the shoulder at about 2.190". This differs from the SAAMI spec of 2.204". The face of the base has cutting marks from turning. Is this the way it should look or has someone taken a cut off the base?
Otherwise, WTF am I doing wrong. This is my first reloading project with dies and a press. I have, however, been reloading a couple of different cartriges with a Lee Loader. Am I using to much lube that is accumulating at the shoulder? The vent hole in the die is clear.
