i'm trying to reload some for my m-14 using 150gr remy brass i shot.

after breaking 2 decaping pins i measure the rim using a caliper and they are averaging .047 (054 saami spec) cases are pretty much good for scrap now, the primers are almost impossible to get out.
anyone ever had this problem?:confused:
 
What kind of brass is it? Military surplus brass has the primer crimped in, which can break de-capping pins. I've had better luck using a decapping die.
 
standard factory 150gr remy core-lokt, i think its a pressure problem crushing(flattening) the rim,like the bolt is pushing ammo to hard and fast in the chamber
 
What is the measurement before the cases were fired?
Don't know why you are breaking decapping pins, but I really doubt that the cause is anything to do with what you described.
 
i'm gonna get a bunch of winchester's, hornady's, remy's and whatever brand i can find this weekend and see if the problem persist.

What brand of dies? Check the decapping rod for straightness.
Remington brass doesn't have berdan primers.
 
looks like my rifle doesn't agree with 150gr core lokt,

tried some winchester and federal last week, so far winchester super x and federal 150gr gave the best result.

super x are very tight a 25 yards and group around 4 inches @100 y.
federal, i feel was better, although i had only 5 round for a test, i managed to get around 3 1/2 inches with those.

also noticed some difference in the ballistic, the point of impact was clearly higher then the other(almost 2 inches) and the spent cases flew right next to me at a 90 angle instead of 2 feet in the front like the rest.

also the brass is in better shape then the remington's, they are probably too soft.

still waiting for replacement decaping rod, but it looks like my problem was that my rifle don't like remington ammo!
 
"...rifle doesn't agree with..." Kind of odd, but not exactly unusual. Rumour has it that Remington has been having QC issues lately. Federal brass is known to be softer than other brands. Only means that it doesn't last as long for reloading.
Work up a load with 165 grain hunting bullets with IMR4064.

i got some imr 4895 coming in but i am gonna shoot a bunch more before reloading, do some tuning, introducing one variable at a time. it's more like a long term project.
