Crushed walnut shell problems

If I could recall where I have read everything on the internet, I'd be rich.

yomomma, do tell. Not yet in my tumbler, but what kind of horror stories, what kind of "stuff', and how "gummed up?"

Alrighty, used my google foo. Although i have not found the thread i was looking for, i did find many instances of people saying it gummed up their machine.

NEW dryer sheets tend to leave lots of residue which gums up the bowl. Moreover, it is the spaces where the chemicals were which filters and traps the contaminants in the media.

USED sheets are recommended for a reason

another

When I first started using the (used) sheets and didn't notice a difference, I thought that people were referring to new, unused sheets. All that did was gum up the media. So I continue using the used sheets

And yet another, you had me thinking I was going senile

I clean media every so often by tumbling just a "USED" dryer sheet to remove the dust from the media. A fresh dryer sheet will only gum up the media and leave black residue on the brass.

You can put a damp cloth in the tumbler and let it run 10 minutes, take the cloth out, rinse, wring, and repeat as necessary. It doesn't take long to get rid of the dust. Or you could "winnow" your media. Winnowing was used to separate the grain from the chaff, but likely 99% of modern people don't know what that means either, LOL. Google it.

I would not call it a horror story but the new drier sheets will leave a layer of blackish-green gunk at the bottom of the tumbler after about 10 tumbles. The gunk starts contaminating the necks of tumbled brass and needs steel wool to remove. I had to buy some aggressive steel wool (normally used for cleaning a BBQ grill) to scrape the gunk from the bottom of the tumbler...nasty.

Yup, I've seen this too. After a while you start to see the gunk on brass in the neck and in the rim grooves. Some brands of dryer sheet have a lot more "gunk" than others. That's why people have generally recommended used dryer sheets instead of unused sheets.
