I have reloaded .223 by the thousands and have a good feel seating primers. I use the RCBS hand priming tool.

I was reloading some 30-06 for the first time tonight. When I primed the cases I felt the usual squeeze in of the primer entering the primer pocket, then there was some resistance then the resistance quickly went away and the handle squeezed all the way shut very easily. Almost too easy.

Are these primers crushed or is this how LR primers feel when they seat? They look normal to me.

if they look fine and are seated to the right dpeth then they probably are fine....i havent felt this weird resistence as your describing tho....mine in other calibers (30-30) have equal resistence all the way in....weird....

That isn't unusual when seating LR primers. But if there is no resistance at all, and the priming handle simply slams shut, the primer pocket has expanded and the case should be deprimed and discarded. If you want to double check, if the primer can be seated with thumb pressure the case is finished.

There is resistance all the way. It just lessons moire than I am used to at the end. They look fine to me. I think I'll try shooting it.

You need to clean and or resize (Swag) the pockets and holes. Lots of stuff on the market to do it and generally you get what you pay for.
Have fun.
