Hi, im in the process of building my crypto and want some glass for it. Its got an 18.6" barrel and will be an all purpose firearm. Target, light competitions, hunting, home defence. Our range goes out to 600y so would like to be able to touch out that far. My budget is high but not lets throw money in the fire high, id like to keep it around 2500 for the scope.

My plan was to put a scope on top and a 45° canted red dot.

I dont really need 1x, the nx8 1-8 etc lpvo scopes look real good but im not so confident in my ability to see things at 600y with one.

Please give me some recommendations for scopes primarily and id also take recommendations for canted red dots as well but mostly here for scope help.

bonus points if it comes in FDE

Thanks all

Firstly, I'm assuming you're talking about the Crusader Arms Crypto Rifle in 5.56 Nato

If I were you I would have a look at the Apex Hunter 3-15×44 scope; it's built tough, has low profile lockable turrets with zero stop, great glass, simple Christmas reticle with or without illumination and doesn't weigh a ton. Designed as a hunting scope, it has many features to be a great all rounder scope and it's a Canadian company. 15x is plenty of magnification for 600yds and beyond.

As a bonus it's priced at $1500 and will leave a $1k left over for ammo, a scope mount and other gear you may need.

I personally don't have one yet, but I have my eye set on one. But need to pair down my scope collection a bit first.

Cheers

Tbh man if you want to even be able to call your shots at 600 without a spotter with 223/556 i suggest a high power optic. I suggest a vortex pst gen 2 in 5-25x50. Run a 1.5” height 30mm 20moa cantilever and do your red dot setup. You will be able to see all your shots easily on paper and have great clarity at distance. They are only 1599 and go on sale for 1199 often at cabelas. I swear by them, i got money to burn and could run a bender or nf but i always swear by the vortex psts and venoms. Great glass, great warrenty. No need to spend $2500

Yeah, the 5.56 nato crusader arms crypto. Ill take a look at those ones.

Awesome ill take a look! I was thinking the 1-8's were not going to be enough. Its crazy vortex are some of the most expensive scopes going now also.
Home DEFENCE 🤷🏼‍♂️ what kind of home defence you thinking YOU might be needing ? 🤪 RJ

Eh probably none, but there are a lot of crack-heads about these days.

That Atacr is a great scope, the only real downside is the weight (30oz) and 4x on the low end. The mil-xt is a great reticle. Another great option would've been the 2.5-20 NX8, same reticle, bit lighter weight and 2.5x on the low end which is very usable with the illum on.

I know you didn't want 1x but that's kind of a necessity for home defense/close range stuff. I was gonna suggest the Razor 1-10 as it's the best general purpose scope out there these days (the 1-8 Atacr is real nice too). Hits at 600 are very doable depending on target size and what kind of backstop there is. I wouldn't say it's optimized for that kind of range but it is doable, I routinely use one to engage a 2/3 ipsc at 625.

For a red dot, go with an Aimpoint Acro on a 45 degree Arisaka mount. The enclosed design of the Acro keeps rain and dirt off the red dot's emitter and the dot is otherwise small, light and robust. Leave it on and swap the battery every year and you're golden. If you don't have a mount for your Atacr yet, get a Badger Condition One. That will allow you to directly mount an offset red dot to the side of the mount. A note on offset red dots, you'll want to learn your holds at 5, 10, 25 yds (assuming a 50 yd zero).

I was looking at the 2.5 and the 4-32 nx8's but ultimately went with the atacr i dont think a few oz will bother me too much thankfully. Id be using the red dot as my 1x sight. I got the nightforce mount for the scope and the arisaka for my offset. Id considered getting a higher end mount that can side mount a red dot but went with the cheaper option, i have not yet chosen the red dot but the aimpoint as well as the rmr and a holosun are all options. Todays job is picking the red dot.

The Nightforce mounts are quite nice. My preference for the Acro over the RMR is entirely because I've found that while running open emitter red dots in the rain (which I imagine you get as much or more than me) they tend to get water on the emitter (especially for a pistol in a holster) and then you can't see the dot well until the recoil from the first round clears it up. A T1 or T2 would be a good call as well.

What barrel are you using? I'm doing a build to be a precision/DMR/SPR rifle with a 20" Krieger Hbar (once my receiver set is out of Canpost jail). Won't be light but should be very capable inside 700 with 75gr handloads. Gonna try a few optics I have on hand and see what fits best between Razor 1-10, PST Gen 2 2-10, Razor LHT 4.5-22, all with an offset Acro.

I got an 18.5" shield match barrel from rdsc, maybe next year ill get into hand loading. I was thinking id get a case of ammo and keep the brass from it to reload later. Ive been trying to find some 62gr bulk ammo but nobody has any stock im semi wondering if they are hoarding it all for blackfriday

I actually was comparing the same scopes. Tenda has them 20% off and I couldn't say no. Aside from the ones you mentioned I also looked through the ATACR 4-20x. From the distance I looked through them (only about 500 yards) I couldn't make out any difference between glass clarity aside from the NX8's color temperature being slightly brighter and ATACR being slightly warmer. On max mag the ATACR had much better eyebox but both set on 20x it was more or less a wash. Both scopes had tunnelling at 4x (although the 4-16 doesn't have it)

Ultimately I decided to go with the NX8 4-32 because it is lighter and conceptually fits slightly better with the hybrid-ish build I have by striking a good balance between weight, clarity, magnification and durability.

I've ben watching a few reviews on the 4-16 and lots of them claim the illumination isn't great, I'd be curious to hear your thoughts once the scope is mounted up. I've used the optic a bit before but admit I never tried the illum.
