Some shots of the Carbine assembled. Pictures are from my cell phone as all our camera gear is out of town for the last week.
Thanks to Wicked Police for trades on Larue FUG and to super rapid ship from the crew at TSE. Also my thanks to Wolverine for the quick Mag shipment.
Overall impressions:
So far I'm loving this build. Maybe even more than my last SAN CQB. Most notably, it is infinitely less expensive to shoot.
Yes, I am aware that the additions on the gun are worth more than the rifle itself by a large margin. But I like these particular pieces on any gun I shoot as they are functional, robust and light weight.
I debated the new Eotech XPS2 or 3 and discussed with BigRed at some length. But he talked me out of it and back onto the Aimpoint T1 Micro. We agreed that I was being torn away by shiny kit syndrome from an obvious working, co-witnessing solution.
Factory folder still installed. It is... adequate. You'd need thumbs like a friggin pervert to manipulate the stock on this particular rifle on anything but the shop workbench.
Thanks to an order from Stormwerkz, this is soon to be just a bad memory.
In this picture, you can see the extension of the release. Just a c-hair over the edge of the receiver. I have tested the dog s**t out of this and it is definitely FAST. The test carbine on the 1000+ round torture test was relieved on its side, making mag changes slow and cumbersome. Actually, that doesn't even cover it. With gloves on, it was downright unworkable; at times feeling like I was outright impaired.
With the extended paddles, I can pull a fresh mag and disengage the Mag release with my trigger finger (when firing right or left handed). Simply knock the empty mag forward and out and reseat the new. IMO, it is a whole new lease on functionality for the Cz.
My non-ambi bolt. Waiting for release of an ambi replacement. Some might not consider it necessary. To each their own. For me, this whole project is an exercise in testing revitalization of the Cz/Vz platform as a viable modern carbine and I find fully ambi controls a very desirable feature.
Also shown are the hi-vis replacement irons with FO elements. They pick up the light very well and are fast to acquire on targets under 100m
Here in this photo you can see the tapped holes in the receiver from the factory rail mount. s**t canned that ### POS early on. You should be able to see that the ambi safety will not install properly with that piece in place.
Have screws inbound from Fastenal to cover the holes.
Dave: Here is the new angle for the ambi mag release:
The picture is grainy. Will replace with another from better camera in production lighting. But you might still be able to make out the enhanced bends in this pic. As I said earlier. Fixable on a vice with a 3lb hammer.
Making it function properly with all of my mags seated and tested was another matter, requiring an hour or so with a flat file.
FWIW, it is a fantastic part. But the fit on current gen mag releases for this PARTICULAR rifle is off enough that people who want a tinkering free solution might want to wait for the next release, or get a handy friend to install and test it for them.
