CSA vz.58 7.62x39 Problem Removing Bolt and Carrier

Hello everyone,

I purchased a brand new CSA vz.58 7.62x39 back in February 2017 and have put just over 3000 rounds through it and have now disassembled and reassembled it several times.

I would like some help from the vz.58 experts out there. I just finished cleaning my CSA vz.58 7.62x39 rifle and after assembling and performing a function check, all is good. For some stupid reason I can't explain, I decided to lock open the bolt, insert a Tipton snap cap into the chamber by hand (not from the magazine), closed the bolt(I did look to see if the bolt carrier went all the way forward) and then pulled the trigger. Now the bolt will not pull back in order to be removed from the receiver. The striker will move all the way back, but the bolt and the carrier will not. The carrier will move forward and back about 5mm as it raises and lowers the lug.

I have taken a few photo that can be seen at Flickr of the current position of the bolt and carrier.

Thanks in advance for any help

Can't see your pics?
But have you tried putting the charging handle on the edge of a table or door and push the gun?
Extra force on the charging handle

The pictures should be there now.
Yes, I have tried your suggestion. I pushed as hard as I could and still no movement.

Thanks

Rubber mallet, or block of wood and a hammer

GUB, thank you very much for your suggestions. You the man!
I used a block of wood against the carrier and gave it a firm blow with a mallet and out it came.
Thanks again.

Give'er a good wack with a rubber mallet, could have had a small piece of something in the chamber or the snap cap could have been off spec

I took a deep breath and gave it good whack with a block of wood and a mallet. It worked!

Thank you for the suggestion.

I bought some dummy 7.62 rounds at a gun show to use as snap caps once, they had a rubber "primer" glued into the shell for safe dryfiring aswell.

Well low and behold after attempting to chamber them into my SKS not being able to open it again, lots of profanity and bashing the charging handle with a rubber mallet to get it out I find out that the dork painted and then lacquered the casing.

Still trying to figure out how it chambered with no issue in the first place...

That's the beauty about Russian firearms, beat the crap out of them and they still work. You wont ever be able to do that with an AR lol

1. VZ58 = Czech

2. Been working with C7/C8 for 14 years now and I've seen a lot of them being abused like you wouldnt believe and still shoot straight to 400m :p

You just induced a severe failure to extract. This can theoretically happen if a case bulges too much or if you run the gun really hot and lacquer from the cases gums up the chamber. The correct response to this is to mortar or kickstart the gun. Obviously, pointing in a "safe direction"....take your right hand and grasp the charging handle and slam the stock of the rifle into the ground while pulling back on the handle. If that doesnt work you can stomp down on the handle as well.
Unless you have a crappy stock, it wont hurt anything
