CSA VZ-58 & Magpul MOE AK-47 Grip?

Funny thing about this thread, it has shifted dramatically to modding and fitting ak grips and not the handguard anymore lol. I am also curious, how does one mod the magpul ak forend to fit the vz?

Guys, I can't seem to find any threads on AK grip mods for VZ other than this one.
Any chance of PLEASE posting pics of the process (tracing contour/etc...) you speak of.
Also aside from the Magpul AK grip, can I get any AK grips up here or do I have to order State side?
Any help would be appreciated.
Lobster and Bfiles....you guys got some serious Badass Vz.58 mods going on!!!

Cheers :)

How does one remove the grip plate?

You don't. You have to dremel Magpul grip to fit the plate. I didn't do a good job on this one, but good enough not to buy another one. As you can see, I use the plate to affix the magpul.

How does one remove the grip plate?

Take the original grip off and grind the heads of the rivets on the grip plate until they are gone, then punch them out and slide the grip plate out from under the trigger guard. Use a small machine screw and nut to fasten the trigger guard back.

You will need a new grip screw, get yourself an M6 x 110 mm socket head cap screw. The diameter of the head doesn't fit in the AK grip so take it to a bench grinder and turn it down until it fits nice. The screw will also stick out of the grip a bit so grind it down a bit until it's as flush as you can get it while still getting a good bite with an Allen wrench.

This way is faster, cleaner and more importantly, you can return the rifle back to its original state.

Here's a pic of the grip plate removed and the new bolt:

I've done it twice to put bakelite grips on both my VZ 58 and my Type 81. Note that AK's don't have grip retainer plates so don't worry about them.

How did you get a cleaning rod under the barrel? Is it screwed into anything?

No, it holds just like AK holds.
Requires a bit of machining and guide inside lower hand guard. Front portion sits in the slot and entire rod is under upward tension.
