CSA VZ 58 non restricted does not have chrome lined barrel!!!

If I'm not mistaken, the lower the velocity the round, the more shots a barrel can take. Since the x39 round is a fairly low velocity intermediate round, the barrel should be able to handle 1000's of rounds without concern.

How many is a question left for the manufacturers.

So when will these arrive?

Either I spend it on the TYPE 97, or Chromelined NR CSA VZ58 7.62x39

Please!

I agree that you would be hard pressed to burn out a CZ858 or CSA barrel. Not only are these barrels pretty decent quality to begin with, they will likely never see the sustained fire/heat that it would take to wear out a barrel. Our neutered five round mags, stacked 10' high, shot one after the other would not even do it.

The CSA are newly manufactured rifles, whereas some say the CZ 858 is new old stock. Furthermore the CSA have the tabbed bolt carrier, have synthetic parts (as opposed to the wood), and come in a nicer black finish as opposed to gray.

I just spoke with the Canadian distributor for CSA, and he confirmed that the unrestricted 18.5" barrel is not chromed, but that a chromed version is coming soon.

Question for you VZ858/CSA vz58 non-restricted owners: how is the barrel holding up? Rust? Wear and tear? Thanks!
I can tell you mine is holding up superbly! But I've only.had around 250 rounds put through it, and I clean rifle to condition.

What's the big deal about having a chrome lined barrel, can someone enlighten me ?
Chrome lined bore are more corrosion and wear resistant. Wear resistance is only useful on fully automatic firearm, like i mentionned in another post, given the mag limitation we have and the low power of the 7.62x39 round, a non chrome bore will last a very long time as long its cleaned well if shooting corrosive ammo.

I was about to buy a CSA VZ 58 non restricted, because I thought it had a chromed barrel, but apparently it doesn't! Two different sources confirmed they are not chrome lined. Apparently the VZ58 you can buy in the States is the "Sporter" ONLY version which is chrome lined, and you cannot even buy the 18.5" barrel version in the states. I am therefore guessing that for the Canadian market, CSA just gets the same barrels used in the CZ 858. This is hinted at the fact that the Canadian market CSA VZ 58 non-restricted rifles have a bayonet mount, which are illegal in the states.

Thoughts on this?
:weird:R:d::sucks:

I received a CSA VZ58 non-restricted with M4 stock and it is infact a chromelined barrel...

There are non-restricted versions by CSA with either a chrome or non-chrome barrel.. Non-chrome being much more prevalent as the chromelined barrel AFAIK is a newer addition this year... Before you ask, make sure you clarify if its chromelined or not.. SFRC sold chromelined as well as the shop in Kelowna that mine came from; even the box states VZ58CHROMELINED on the side..

I bought one of the first available chrome lined NR CSAs made this year. Overall great quality but the accuracy is no where near as good as the CZ858. People have said that the manufacturing process of chrome-lining leads to imperfections in the barrel resulting in decreased accuracy. Kind of annoying actually.

The downside to chrome-lined is that you will exchange a bit of accuracy for that increased durability and longevity.

EDIT: I'm sorry, superlative, your post wasn't visible when I added mine. Cheers.

Actually I'm not concerned so much about rust, because I will never shoot corrosive ammo, and I will always oil the barrel.

My concern is barrel wear. Some say that non-chromed only last about 5000 rounds. Opinions on this?

Add a zero to that, 50 000 rounds in semi action

What's the bore size on your rifle ?
