Had a case separation with a Norinco .223 cartridge in my CSA vz58 .223 19".
Not sure if this is the best forum to post this on but I figured Canada Ammo has sold millions of rounds of this stuff and lots of you guys have had plenty of experience with it.
My question is, have any of you seen or heard of this before and do you think it's an issue with the Chinese brass or an issue with the CSA chamber.
Background on the rifle is , bought it new last December and took it out once that year and shot 80 rounds of American Eagle AR 223 through it without any issues. Rifle cycled through all 80 with no failures. Rifle was dissasembled and cleaned before that first shoot and right afterwards.
I got an ammo can of the Norinco 223 last week from Canada Ammo and went out to the range yesterday to see how the gun runs with it. This was the rifles second time out shooting.
Chamber and bore were clean and dry before the shoot.
I shot 10 rounds of the AE223 first. Switched over to the Norinco ammo and shot one full box of 20 with no issues. Decided to switch back to the AE 223 to compare muzzle flash , grouping etc. When I released the bolt, it picked up the first round of AE and stopped about 1/2" out of battery.
Tried to pull the carrier handle back but it was jammed in tight. Took quite a while but I finaly got it to come back and found that the last round of Norinco had saparated and left the front 3/4" of the brass inde the chamber. The AE round was jammed tight into the Norinco brass. Pictures below. Looking at the edges of the split brass they don't seem to have any powder residue just a clean break. The case neck had quite a thick powder residue that maybe stuck the case in the chamber and then the bolt ripped the case in half on the way back. I picked up a buch of the other empty brass and couldn't see the same residue on any of them whether AE or Norinco. Unfortunately there were 3 other guys around me shooting both the Norinco 223 and AE with their AR's so it was hard to determine where the brass came from.
I shot 10 rounds of the AE after getting the stuck case out and checking the chamber and they functioned fine.
