CSA vz58 5.56 Norinco FAIL

The first case of Norinco .556 that i got ran like a champ in my XCR. The one i got recently I have had two primers pop out after firing a round and get jammed up in the gun both times, a round with a cracked neck (i didnt shoot it, just trashed it) and a couple rounds got the lead pushed right in when it got chambered and one round that practically fell apart when i was loading it. (The lead fell out, followed by the powder of course, primer stayed in. Suprised the #### out of me.)

Bought some last Friday, went to the range in poco Sunday. Had my 1st dud ever on .223.. Still for the price can't complain too much :p

I bought a crate and it was full of sand

I see im not the only one who got something unexpected

I ordered a few crates of 1600 .223 casings for about 27 cents a case, but they ripped me off! they come some dis-assembly required, so now I have to shoot them to get the casings from them... Its enough to drive a man to practice more then once a month just so he has a good supply of reloads.

Any updates on this? My rifle (18.5 CSA) has about 1500 rounds through it and this has never happened. First night out with the norinco 5.56 ammo and bam - case separations every 3 rounds or so. Disappointing to say the least.

Going to contact the vendor to see if this is common. I'll check my gun but I sort of doubt that it's the problem.

In this case i don't know what to say.

Haha... I chuckled.

My separations look like this:

I'm going to give my chamber a good cleaning, check the headspace, and contact CSA.

Oh by the way Chris from Canada Ammo has been on the ball with emails and suggestions. Excellent service!

I posted earlier that I had the same problem. I finally got the busted brass out and had the headspace checked with a field gauge which indicated too much headspace. I've since sent it in for warranty work after getting an authorization number from CSA. I'm told my rifle will be looked at in the next week or two. I will post the results when I get them for those who are interested.

Very interesting. I have access to some go/ no-go gauges so I'll start with those. I'm interested in your results.

Because of my round count (where I haven't seen any other indications of headspace issues) I'm wondering if it is a tight/sticky chamber or something and the brass is being ripped apart on extraction.

The exact same issue with my VZ58 compact sporter 7.5 inch barrel in 5.56 with a muzzle brake.
I had but problems with this riffle since I bought it 2 month ago from a local gun range out here in Montreal. First brake in period lots of jams with fail to eject fired rounds. Finished brake in period still jammed more often.
I was using Norinco and AE amo and no difference. One month ago my firing pin broke after 1200 rounds of Norinco and AE amo mixed. They Sent me a new firing pin under warranty.
Just last week my first case separation happened with AE amo. Took it out and continued shooting. Another 2 case separation followed inside the firing chamber. I decided to stop there for safety reasons.
My gunsmith thinks its the gun and sent it to the distributor in Toronto under warranty. He think the headspace is done...What a piece of junk metal these 7.5 inches 5.56 VZ58s.
2500 rounds and the head space is ruined. Its not the amo folks. These 5.56 with the 7.5 inches barrels using the 7.62 long barrel vz bolt carrier mechanism but with a very short gaz rod. I think the problem is there..The gun is not cycling properly due to the high pressure of the 5.56 round and the short barrel.
VZ should have designed a new bolt carrier/firing pin/striker for that model.

I had this happen in my m14 which caused slam fires. It is likely the ammo and not the gun.

And how do you explain using the same Norinco amo with 2 of my AR15 and over 3000 rounds fired and not a single jam, case separation or miss fire.
Don't forget that I was using American eagle in addition of the Norinco amo in the VZ.
