I am wondering if anyone here has advice or knowledge of the process of replacing the lower hand guard on CSA VZ58 rifles.
Specifically, the removal of the pin holding the lower hand guard in place.

I have tried hitting the hand guard pin with another pin and a hammer and have so far removed some paint on the former pin but it has not budged. I have looked online and from what I have seen the various vz58 rifles seem to have different style pins attached in various ways. Its not very clear if I am supposed to be hitting from the side of the bolt release handle (right) or the left. I have tried both and nothing, and I don't want to proceed in increasing force until I have more information.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Okay I will try this. I know this seems like a silly question but can people please confirm what side of the gun I am to place the punch on and hit? Is it the right side (with the bolt release handle) or the left side?

I always hit from the left side opposite the charging handle.

Can others confirm this? I am hitting the left side opposite the handle (with the intention of the pin coming out the handle side) and have only gotten it about a third of the way and nothing will move it further. I destroyed 2 well sized brass punches already.

The pins are not tapered so it does not matter which way you hit them. I have taken dozens of lowers on and off and it does not matter which way.
Just hit the bloody thing with authority and you are done

I just used a 1/8" steel punch from crappy tire. If its stubborn heat it up with a heatgun or something and blast it with wd40 or some other pentrating oil. A few cycles of that and it will come out I promise.

The pins are not tapered. Im looking at a spare one right now.
