Please be respectful I'm sure this is a problem that plagues many of us. My bayonet on my SKS hangs down. When it's stowed it sags below the stock making it rather dangerous to shoot. Now I could just take it off or put some gun tape on there. I was hoping some of you fine folks could bestow apon me some advice on fixing this condition.

What year is it?

I have a '53 Izzy that had a sagging bayonet. It had the early straight syle locking lugs. I gathered up a few bayonets and mix-matched the parts until I found the right combination of blade and handle to fix the problem.

Check the lugs and compare to the connector on the rifle. Both should be angled. If you have a straight sight post lug and an angled bayonet part, some russian did a poor job refurbising it.

Ie, looks like some old style / new style bayonet parts were mixed.

If it's of post mid-'53 manufacture.

Well...despite the humor...back on topic.

Beavermeat is right - if you swap a few bayonets/lugs you should get a good match. If not order a few lugs or extra bayo's from Lever, Milarm, Marstar etc. and you should find a match or if you have a local gun store - just pop in and if they have spare SKS parts they could help you.

I was very surprised when comparing the lugs how many variations in angle and in grip serrations there are - you see the same with the cleaning kits - so many minor variations.

Regards
