Curiosity question - what choke came with the Witness Protection 870 ?

what years were these guns produced ? i would expect that automatic weaponry sling systems are being used but that is just a guess. that was an interesting ad on those guns and thanks for posting McCoy.

The first ones were built by Wilson Arms in Brunswick Ga in the 80s ( not related to Wilson Combat), my WP870 date back to 1984, the second batch were built by Automatic Weaponry in the late 80s, third batch was built by Scatterguns Technologies (before they were bought by Wilson Combat in the early 90s)

I'm lucky to have found one by Wilson and one by Scattergun Technologies.

hard to find even in the US.

There seems to be a bit of resurgence in interest in the Witness Protection style shotgun of late, two examples being the new Mossberg Shockwave and Suarez International is set to introduce a 14" 870 model actually called...wait for it... the Witness Protection.

Most people despise them, but with a birds head grip and buffered loads, they're actually pretty peachy. Half the reason they've gained such a bad reputation is because of their limited/intended purpose, and the 'difficulty' aiming. Anyway, that's enough of that.

Either way, the Witness Protection style 870s are quite the thing, not just to shoot, but as an interesting piece of 70s and 80s law enforcement history.

I find it interesting many SG shooters can't get their head around the special purpose application of the PG design. It's designed to be effective at what it's designed for, nothing more. It's limited use but good at what it does. It's not complicated ...

IMO, most people don't truly understand the regular shotgun when it comes to tactical use, let alone a niche variant.

Can one still buy that pistol grip?

I've never seen the wooden ones available. The smaller SpeedFeed synthetic version is no longer in production. Only game in town is the slightly longer (to keep you legal with a 14" barrel) Shockwave Raptor grip. Good grips.

i have made a couple of these birds head grip style stocks from wood. the first one i made in a fully equipped. furniture shop were i worked. the second one i made at home with common tools .one is cherry and one is thorn tree. i will get my son to post some pics as i have no idea how. if you have patience it is not overly hard to do.the easiest way would be to cut down a full stock and go from there.

Some more pictures of both The Wilson Arms wp870 and the Scattergun Tech TR870.

I've switch the Extra full choke tube that came with it for a cylinder one, will be shooting slugs with the thing !
