Who can make a custom barrel for a semi-auto rifle? I have a Nylon 66 and was wondering if a barrel maker could make one to fit the rifle. The Rem barrel seems fairly simple. Why? I just want to know.

This isn't really a matter of "Who could do it?", but more so a matter of "Who could afford it".
Most smiths could fit a barrel to your .22. You would have to buy a blank, get it fitted, chambered, and sights added. You'd have to be careful about it's length, and weight. I don't know any 'smiths in your neck of the woods, but they must be there. A few hours north will get you to Epps. One of the site sponsors builds "fine reputation" target guns...(Mystic Precision?) It would be an expensive project, and not a guarantee that what you end up with is any better than an original barreled 66.

The barrel is fine. Actually it shoots astonishingly well. For me the problem is noise. Even subsonics sound like I'm shooting an FN! My property has lots of hills and valleys. The echo from a subsonic echos loudly and scares game away. With a longer barrel this would not be a problem. For two hundred dollars Ruger will give you a twenty-six inch barrel for the 10/22 rifle. This is what I want for my Nylon 66.
If quiet is what you want, try running it as a "straight-pull" bolt action with CB's....if the round is powerful enough to cycle it, it's going to be audible too...you can't actually add a "silencer" to a rifle, but you could add a break that may direct some recoil(noise).

The 66 locks the barrel in quite snugly. In a 10/22 it is held in a block that I personally have reservations about. Be that as it may, six extra inches may be fine and cause no problems - or it may. I honestly do not know. What I do know is that I would prefer a quieter report to save my ears and not spook the game.
Where did you find that info?
A fellow at the range I shoot at ordered one and that is the price he told me it was. Shipping and taxes he did not mention.
