Current PAL turnaround time faster?

anyone know how many phases your application goes through? i think i'm on the second phase, but if theres only 3 then i don't really know how much longer its going to take.

The phases we saw on the internet was
1. acknoledgement of receiving your application
2. initial processing (where they call your references and do background checks)
3 Application in progress (where i believe they wait until the required 28 day
waiting period has passed)
4.application process complete, license in the mail.

Those are the phases i saw from checking the status of my father and mine PAL application daily. He already day a POL so i believe the skipped the waiting period for him cause it says his in in the mail and I'm still stuck on phase 3  ( they got our applications on the same day)

You are likely correct as the background checks are probably not done again. On phase #4 I would only add that it is usually 14 days from the time they say they are mailing it until it arrives for a total of 28+14=40 days give or take.

alright thanks for the reply. i'm on phase 3 now so i guess its time to play the waiting game. the long long waiting game. do they send it to the cfo after the 28 days, or does the cfo already have it or will have it during the 28 days? that is, assuming the cfo is the last stop before it gets to your door.

The CFO was consulted during the process with regards to verification of info & referances. The actual plastic card will come from CFC Miramachi, NB. You aren't alone in playing the waiting game. What the dark side doesn't realise is that this simply strengthens our resolve and determination.

That's weird. As soon as my application was in their system, it was listed as, "Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date."

Never got your step 1 or 2.

It's still stuck on step 3 for me and I know that one of my references has yet to be questioned (due to not being available).

It was a couple of years ago now, but neither of my references were contacted and it took a little over two months to get my PAL. Nothing is for sure!

your references don't have to be called. i think more often than not they aren't called. the first 2 steps went by right away for me. i actually think it might have finished the initial processing before they even phoned me up, so i dont know if the refence part is part of processing. they really need to update the site and give some better explainations and perhaps outline the steps they take.

the calling of refrences was part of mine (still don't have mine but waiting period isn't up yet either) they called all my references and asked them some simple questions. Now the good news. my father received his PAL. We put both of ours in the mail on jan 22 and he got his license on Feb 12th but like i have previously stated he already had a POL and i believe they waive the waiting period in cases like that.

Im told now they call your refrences...they did for mine last month...and when it came to question me, they sent me a letter to contact them. Added another week to the process while they awaited fro me to contact them back....

^^ lol

Have you experienced a breakup in a relationship in the last two years?

Are you mentally unstable?

Are you fascinated with guns and violence?

And my personal favorite, if you receive your license, will you plan on using it to commit gun related crimes?:rolleyes:

They called both my references and asked them the same questions. Its a waste of 15 minutes of law abiding citizens time.

It took about 6-8 weeks for my non-restricted PAL to go through. (started around OCt, got my card in mid December)

As of Sept. all the test forms have to be sent in the Firearms Center, where they stamp it, and send it back to the PAL insturctor. Then you send it all the forms in.

Are you sure? I believe after you write the test, the instructor sends the test form to the CFO (province), then the CFO stamps it and then sends it directly to the applicant.

I am always worried that when they phone my contacts, I will get rejected, due to my family having a very politically incorrect sense of humor.

"Do you oppose Pat owning a firearm in any way?"

"YOU'RE LETTING HIM HAVE A GUN!? WHATS WRONG WITH YOU!? WE'LL NEVER BE SAFE!!!"

Wow, the CFC works pretty fast it seems.

They only received my application for non-restricted 3 days ago and so far phoned me and questioned myself, and my brother, who was my first reference.

My father was my next but he was working, I'm gonna get him to call the CFC today.

I kind of feel embarrassed, having my family being asked questions about my mental health, and behavior in general.

Just an update. Application rec'd by the CFC on 25 Jan 08 and I just checked today (22 Feb 08) and it had been processed and should be in the mail. Exactly 28 days between receiving and issuing.

One of references was called the week after it was received and the other was called around the 3 week mark. I remember someone posting that the 28 day waiting period took effect after both references and the applicant were contacted but it wasn't the case in mine.

same for me 28 days and it was in the mail, I was called with in the first week, both references were called later that day, few days later it was off to the cfo, then wait for the 28 days no problem.

Avoiding the fall and early winter is a must every one wants it to go hunting, and summer is the same eraly year seems to be the best time:D

Rpal too.

A friend of mine who sent in for his first PAL late last year had his license in hand within 4 weeks.

I sent my application in for my first PAL early this month, it arrived in Miramichi on Feb, 7th. I got a call the week after asking if I was a drug trafficker, both my references were called around the same time and asked bizarre questions. I called the CFC earlier this week, the lady on the phone informed me that my application was accepted and my plastic card was going to be sent to me on March 6th. Lets see when it actually arrives.
