Hi,

I want to install a new recoil pad on my Marlin 1895 which presently have a curved factory hard polymer one but the ones I can find are all straight cut.

Cutting the end of the stock straight to install a pad is out of question as I want to keep it in it's original shape so what do you guys use?

I am thinking of slowly heating the polymer back plate of a new Pachmayr pad to curve it so it'll fit and do the trimming after, so ....... any suggestions?

Thanks

Pachmayer F325 pads can be bent.. The decelerator has a steel plate and can not be bent.... some other pads may have this plate too...

But won't you have to shorten the stock anyway? You'll increase the LOP (length of pull) quite a bit if you don't compensate by shortening the stock, unless the factory dimension is too short for you.

Put it in boiling water for a few minutes. Hold tightly aaginst butt until it cools.
Good option for sure, thanks :D

I could benefit of a good 1/2", maybe 3/4" as the stock is not that long, the original pad is 1/4" hard stuff, it will sure make a difference on felt recoil :D I will try with the 1" pad on hand and see how it fits. thanks

From an article entitled "The Marlin 1895G - reducing felt recoil" on realguns.com (accompanied by a pic):

This is a picture of a brick, not a great picture but, none the less, a picture. Someone might suggest this looks a lot like a Marlin 1895G factory recoil pad, but it can't be, because it doesn't flex, twist, compress, or even bounce very high when tossed to the ground....

You'll definitely want a good recoil pad unless you're just shootng Level 1 ("Trapdoor") loads.
