As a Canadian distributor of 4 of the more popular Custom 1911 manufacturers (Nighthawk Custom, Ed Brown, Wilson Combat and Les Baer Custom ) we often get calls inquiring about which manufacturer is better or what manufacturer produces the "best" gun. Since there are a lot of pro's to each and a lot of different options and upgrades for each manufacturer, i thought it would be educational to hear from actual owners and get your opinions and thoughts with regards to Quality, finish, accuracy and value etc, of these 1911 manufacturers.

Let us know... and pics would be cool too!!

Cheers
Gary

I would love to say that i own any of these fine 1911's, unfortunately im not very good at hiding my spending from the wife ;) Ed Brown will be my choice when i finally do purchase one. For now i'll have to stick to the Norcs :)

I have been fortunate enough to own the Wilson Combat, Les Baer and the Ed Brown.:)
As Gary has mentioned, they all have their strengths...I believe the Ed Brown to be the "prettiest" (that is a compliment), the Les Baer to be the "working mans'pistol" (also a compliment), and the Wilson Combat to be somewhere in the middle.....

I have a Nighthawk on order, but I would love to get my hands on any one of the other "big 4". Would like a Wilson next, but would be over a year long wait for one (like Ed Brown). Les Baer would be a less expensive (I won't use the word "Cheaper") and faster option. Can't go wrong with any of them!

I own a Ed Brown three night hawks and also a pair of kimbers but I have to say that the night hawks are on the top of my list.

I can honestly say that I am intending to buy a premium 1911 sometime this year, but I would prefer to purchase an in-stock item rather than wait to have something made and imported. Are you going to be holding inventory of any of these pistols?

I bought a midline 1911. (Sig Sauer Scorpion) and my next one will be a Les Baer. Honestly, I won't drop any big bucks to a ####.
Les Baer is not that. He seems to be a Gentleman. It matters.

Custom pistol is Custom.

I understand why you wouldn't want to wait but, maybe just order it earlier than you need it then?

You can usually pick so many options there isn't a good reason to stock a "base" model.

Mauro,

Well if you ever decide to sell that stainless Kobra Carry...let me know. My blued KC is lonely and needs company : )

I have a Wilson Accucomp but none of the other top ends mentioned to compare it to. I do have a Kimber 1911 so based upon my comparison with it can attest to the fact that the Accucomp is very noticeably quicker in its recovery. Fit finish & function of the Wilson are as you'd expect, flawless.
