Does anyone build custom .22 rifles in Canada? Sites? Pics? Company or just a fellow CGNer on the board? I've been thinking about getting a custom .22 rifle made up but not sure where to go, read, think about what to do, etc ... idea's and any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Cheers,

As far as I know it's kind of a do it your self thing. With a 10/22 anyway.

Thans all I do to my 22's. I have only two untouched left in my collection, the rest is cheap cheap old used rifles modified to something unrecognisable. Like said above, its more of do-it-yoursef thing.

Otokiak,

What are you looking for? Target/benchrest rifle... or something to go hunting with?

If you like single shot rifle (and have some money available for the project)... These guys make some outstanding stuff!

This been said, Francis Gaulin at Armtech would be your best bet. They make their own action...

I made up a few of what could be called custom rifles on Brno actions. One of the few .22 bolt actions worth using. Did one up with a Mannlicher stock. Very nice. Another had a conventional sporter stock, a third was a .22 metallic silhouette rifle in a synthetic stock with a Douglas air gauged barrel. Still have that one, really shoots. Fitting a new barrel to a Brno is harder than rebarrelling most centrefire rifles.

Martini and Hagn are beautiful but YIKES, don't look at the price tags.....

I have a beautiful custom 22 built on a BSA Martini single shot action. It is reasonably straight forward to get a beautiful gun at an affordable price using that action.

The above gun is not mine, but mine is similar, without the checkering and a slightly shorter, heavy barrel.

Ok I have a Ruger 10/22 that I want to modify ... currently sitting in a butler creek folding stock ... nothing else done to it ... give me some idea's for;

1. barrels makes/types(bull, octagonal, fluted, etc) ... who makes 20" barrels?(as I don't think 16" works with the folding stock to be legal???)
2. internals(complete)?
3. mag release extention?

I was thinking of getting a 20 inch bull barrel that is fluted, however would have to modify the stock to make it fit right? Also, reading alot on these rifles on other sites and will hopefully figure out how to get the internals out?(advice/instructions needed) Also, how does one remove and replace the barrel? I have a friend here who's good with fiddling with guns and will help me out if I do this project ... which I really want to do ... thanks for any help,

Otokiak, 18" or 20" bull barrel fluted would be a very good choice. I would reccomend GM (green mountain) line of barrels. They are very accurate, equipted with "Match" bentz chambers, and are found at a very decent price. With my GM barrel on my 10/22 at 50 yards I can average about .4CTC with decent ammo. Nothing wrong with that.

Yes you will have to modify the stock, or buy an aftermarket one which can be found for relatively cheap and 99% of aftermarket stocks are made for the bull barrels anyway.

For the internals I would get a hammer - this will lower your trigger pull from about 8lbs down to 2.5-3lbs. I have a skeeter hammer but the VQ hammers are very good as well. They can be found for about $40 or so and are probably the best upgrade. A extended magazine release is a good one as well, and a bolt buffer will make cycling a bit more smooth - not so clunky.

The barrels are very easy to install. It is a v-block with two allen screws that hold it on.

Otokiak,

I have sent you all the info you need to do this your self. PM in your box with links other then sending out the bolt to get work done, the rest you can do by replacing or swapping parts.
