Custom .22 rifle builders in Canada ...

The pics aren't very good. I have a new camera and should take some new ones. It has a Skeeter's Deluxe trigger kit (around 1 pound with no creep or over travel), VQ target trigger, VQ automatic bolt release, VQ extended mag release, VQ Exact Edge Extractor, VQ receiver mount, Weapon Kraft buffer, GM 16" fluted barrel, Leupold rings, Bushnell 5-15x40 AO (Mildot) Legend scope and a Houge overmolded stock.

KDX feedback please! How does this set up work for you?
what is your best groups @ 50 yds.?
if there was anything you would change KDX what would it be?

I'm asking because I was thinking of doing the same set up except for barrel & trigger I was thinking Skeeter's new trigger he just made the drop in one & ER shaw or Whistlepig barrel. all the other parts would be the same.

The gun shoots better than I do. Here's a pic of a 50 yard group I shot that I pulled the 5th shot on quite badly. It should have been one jagged hole. I was using Mini Mags.

Has anyone tried those "Butler Creek" barrel/stock combo's from SIR? It's listed as a bull barrel .920 blued 20 inches ... wonder if these are any good? Please post if you have used or own one of these? Thanks for the replies ... took the barrel off Tiny Tina yesterday ... still reading up on how to remove/take apart the internals ... cheers,

They are allright. If you are into any serious target shooting I would say "no" but for $110 or whatever they cost they are not to bad. Just don't get carbon fibre from BC - they are not any good IMO. The 20" blued barrels though from BC are preatty good - I have seen some very good shooting ones.
 
Ok after reading alot here on CGN/other sites and getting some advice from fellow CGNer's ... I'm doing this project myself ... as apparently these rifles are like lego ... so the other day I removed the barrel ... myself ... WOO HOO ... after reading some info and it was so simple ... :redface:. Now I found a TS 16.5 barrel and a GM 20" fluted barrel ... gonna try both and see which I like ... what would you suggest for sanding out my butler creek folding stock to fit these barrels??? I believe they're .920 diameter? Also, got an extractor, bolt stop and hammer/shear kit ... what else would you suggest for my custom build? I'm so excited as Tiny Tina is gonna get a make-over ... HAHA ... :D;)

A bolt buffer and extended magazine release are good investments as well but sounds like you are on the right track :). The barrels are .920 in diameter - if you are going to free float them using a 1" dowel is good (that leaves .04" on each side of the barrel which is about right for free floating).

Looks like I'm only gonna get to try the GM 20" barrel as the TS 16.5 deal didn't work out ... bummer-city as I wanted to try both barrels ... :( Where can 1 get a bolt buffer and extended mag release? Also, can I not just sand out the stock to fit the barrel? Any reason I would want to free-float a .22? Thanks for all the help folks ... this project is turning out to be quite fun ... "catworks" is gonna help me paint Tina up in camo when she's complete ... sweeeeet ... :D

Sorry to hear that the TS barrel didn't work but I would be betting that the GM would be the most accurate barrel anyway. BcBoy on here has bolt buffers and hex screws for sale - might want to contact him. Other than that rimfire sports or hawktech has extented mag releases and you would get free shipping still from both of them for something like that.

Yes you can sand out the barrel, I just meant the 1" dowel as a reference to get it more exact then just sanding away. Free floating generally helps with accuracy to get it more consistant (and to make it so that humidity does not change POI when you shoot) for the .22 and for other guns out there. The 10/22 reciever is not overly strong though so if you do decide to free float it also: Glass bed it including a few inches forward of the recoil lug OR put a preassure pad in near the front of the forend to support the barrel up.

Any info on extended mag release's? Please advise and thank you for everyone's help on CGN ... this make-over is gonna be fun to do on my Tiny Tina,

if you want I have 2 new Butler creek ones for $10. ea. for you.. Or you can get a nice fancy one from rim fire that comes in different colors

Got my GM 20 inch fluted barrel in the mail today ... WOOHOO ... this project is coming ... waiting on hammer/shear kit from Brownells, bolt buffer/hex screws from BcBoy, mag release from Brocolt ... not sure what else to do to Tina? I can't wait to shooost her and then have "catworks" on the board paint her up in woodland camo like my 12 guage ... sweeeeet ... :dancingbanana:
