Have ordered all the parts for my first bolt action 30cal magnum

Specs to be :

Montana Rifle Co 1999 action
24" Benchmark #4 contour stainless / fluted barrel, 1:9.5 twist
McMillan Winchester Super Grade stock, 80% black 20% yellow w/ 1" Decelerator pad
All metal will be cerakoted, not sure what color yet. Probably a dark grey or black.

For optics I am leaning towards the Leupold Vx5 3-15x44 Firedot in Talley LW rings. Looks like it should be around 8.75lbs scoped?

Terry at Black Art Rifle co will be doing the build work, and it should drive 180gr Accubonds in the 3050 range

Mark; I heartily endorse your new build!!! I believe you will be quite pleased with the results.
Your chosen components should morph into an accurate, handy rifle that is comfortable to
shoot. Your goal of 3050 with the 180 is realistic, and it is possible that it may even deliver
a bit more. I have two custom 308 Norma Magnums, and they are both amazingly accurate.
One sports a McGowen tube,[ 1-10"] the other a Benchmark. [1-9"] See a group below from
the Benchmark, with a 200 Partition load at 2965 fps [26"]. Post some pics of the finished item,
plus a couple of groups. :) Dave.

I feel bad for that fine action being forced to house a belted cartridge in 2018.....

Well, Gate, I doubt that the action would ever know the difference. You can call me old fashioned, and not current on choices,
but I would sooner have a 308 Norma Mag than a 300 WSM or 300 RCM any day. BTW, I do have a 325 WSM, which I like as
a great Moose/Elk/Bear thumper....then of course, I have my 8mm Rem Mag, another belted cartridge that truly delivers. Dave.

One of my favorite calibres since my intro to it, during the late 60's. My first was a Parker Hale but following my first 'look' at one in a model 65DL Schultz & Larsen, that I had to have. Phenomenal accuracy and has been my primary 'go to' on a number of Moose hunts. #1!!

I had a PH in 308 NM , great rifle , should've kept it .......... along with a few hundred others .

I'm with him on this one .

Ive shot a MRC 6.5-284 a bit and liked it, and a buddy has a custom Black Art 300wsm built on a MRC 1999, it's good. Trying to source an aluminum bottom metal, as the steel one is 8oz

Figured I could get away with the little thicker barrel and still be quite portable. I have #3 contour 6.5PRC, 280Ack and 338-06 so this will change things up a bit

I’ve always wanted to give the 308 Norma a go. It is a perfect cartridge. Not much time for hand loading these days. So you know that once you start hunting with that .300 those other rifles will collect dust! I always just grab my 300 Win/180 AccuBond
