Not in terms of quality

but in terms of fitting stocks for those of you with different actions ala PGW, Stiller, Nesika, etc

how do they compare to a rem 700 in fitting into a stock?

I'm wanting to eventually do a custom build based off of one of the above actions, preferrably a PGW and want to put it into something like a JAE stock.

I know the PGW will work with a McMillan obviously, but I really like the look of the new JAE stocks and would love to have that combo if possible, if not i'll go with an A5.

I'm talking a couple year project here as I can't afford to do it in one go. Action first, then barrel and lug, trigger, stock, scope, etc

hopefully you get what i'm asking I just want to basically know what kind of stock options I would have with a custom action/barrel

I have a nesika KT Action and put it in an ACIS. The only thing that had to be modified was the recoil lugs sits a bunch further, so a new slot had to be milled. Other then that, it fits like a glove.

I would certainly talk with the PGW guys as they may have changed their bedding block system, but the 2 PGW actions I built rifles on would in no way allow for adaptation into the JAE stock or anything other than the custom A5s.

Just make sure that the custom action you want has a 700 footprint AND action screw spacings. It will be clearly stated from the manf. Lots of stocks available.

Non Rem 700 actions can usually still be found at the same stock makers as custom rifle building has increased non Rem stocks tremendously.

See what action suits you, then contact the stock maker and see if they will inlet for that action. They usually will.

However, don't be surprised if the fit is very generous. The stock industry has moved to drop in inletting and proper bedding is definitely required to make them work at their best.

You got that right, the A5 I dropped my Win mod 70 into was poorly inletted and required a lot of work to get in fitting proper and bedded. (Thanks to the Devcon gods).

Other stocks I've had from McMillan fit like a glove.

I guess sometimes everyone produces an off one.

Yup, had a McMillan inleted for a Sako that did not fit & the Smith that bedded it had to mill it out & move the whole action back just about a 1/16 of an inch to get it to fit right. He did an awesome job too. Once it was painted you had to look very hard to notice.

Thats exactly what was wrong with mine. Was a pile of work to get it right.

my rem long action droped into my a5 stock like a glove and myself and 2 buddies bought stiller 338actions and stocks from ROBERTSON and they droped in with a perfect fit.
