custom build, now doubting the caliber choice

Over the years I've had a couple 7mm Mags and as nice as they were anything killed with them didn't seem any more dead than an animal killed with my 270s or 280 or my 280AI.....
I've owned 7mmMags,.a 284Win, and I have a .280 and .280AI presently. The only ones I sent down the road willing were the 7mmMags,and I would not have another. The rifles I have now do the job just fine.If you are going into the build with resale value in the back of your mind, you probably shouldn't do it.After all you're building the rifle for yourself not someone else!I don't think I've ever got my money back on a rifle I've sold,I don't worry too much about it! Build a 280 Remington and be happy. It will perform extremely well with a bit less noise and recoil over a Magnum, it holds one cartridge more and feeds very reliably.

Going with an "over the counter" round for a handloader seems strange to me. I've read here a number of times that it's easy to find rounds at the corner store for a 7mm but not for an AI...so what? Who among us is satisfied with store bought after shooting your own loads? If/when you forget your shells at home, and stop at the store to buy factory, how many rounds do you fire at a target to sight in before shooting at game?
I have tried a few times to put some factory rounds through my guns...they don't hit anywhere near where I've sighted my home rolled ones!
