I'm asking this question here as most precision shooter get the guns custom built. My question is which custom color refinishing process is best? I'm looking at getting a few rifles in a custom color and was wondering which process is best and would last longer. Duracoat, KG Gunkote, CeraKote. or is there a better process? I want to get a barrel and action done.

We use the KG with great success. I think the others are similar in performance however.

I have KG on a few guns. Amazing stuff. I am trying duracoat right now. From what I read it is not so great, but I don't care much with this rifle, just wanna try it out. KG is impossible to get tho, lots of smiths carry it, but you need an import permit for it.

Cerakote is tough if applied properly. no expierience with the others. I also like powdercoat from corlane

bump: Ok now that I got some info on custom finishing a rifle, who out there does a good job for a fare price as I'm looking to get a few guns done some guns are not really worth alot but I would like to get them done. any recommendations?

I found a guy that was charging what I thought was a very fare price for a KG finish but I've hear through the grape vine the gunsmith is not doing the process right which now has me worried. So for the price I might only get my beaters do by him before I think about getting a nicer gun done.
