Custom Colt 1911 or new manufacture Traditional

Little bit of a long story but here goes.

I had passed on to me a while ago from my grandfather a S&W 686 .357, when looking up some info on it I found that it was manufactured right around the same time I was born, and my dad confirmed that is exactly why he had kept that gun in particular for me to have. When I found out I was having a son of my own I wanted to do the same for him for when he gets a little older. Being that I was naming him Colt I was thinking an 1873 SAA, however since he was born on February 14th this year, and that being the patent date of the 1911 the plan changed and I now would like to get him one from right around his birthday here.

So anyways my question is has anyone had a gun made by Colt’s Custom Shop and successfully brought it into Canada? I am looking for a Traditional Government 1911 in .45 but was thinking of getting them to put the original patent dates on the slide and adding his birthday on the list. If it’s not possible I’m just going to order through a retailer here and hope to have close to now for a date of manufacture.
 
Why? Adding original patent dates is not worth the money to start with & you have to get someone to do it as a special order.
Pointless & expensive.

If you really think that offsprings will pay attention to & savour this extra custom work, why not just buy an original?
Buy an original Colt model 1911. There is a whole world of original Colt 1911’s available. Post a “want to buy” ad on the EE.

Seeing as there will already be original colts for him if he is interested in them (including SAA) that really isn’t the point of this, it’s to have one manufactured the same time he was, so to speak. I think it’s going to be the Colt Custom 70 series in bright stainless then can decide whether or not to get the engravings done at a later time.
 
FWIW, the S&W "Custom Shop" is actually their clientele from the paid gunsmithing courses assembling guns to the tightest specs possible. How do I know? A family member assembled two revolvers for practise in the "Custom Shop".
