Custom Holsters?

I was wondering if anyone has info on custom holster makers, that are canadian friendly. I'm looking to make up a drop leg unit for my 5" 460S&W mag.....I tried a mocked up paintball drop leg with an insert and the pistol and it works great for such a heavy lump of steel....now I want to get something thats tough and looks decent enough for bush use.

I like my Mernickle field holster as well, here it is with my 5.5" SRH in 454. Can be worn strong side or crossdraw.

Drop leg might not be a great option for field use if you are talking ATC. Check out Bob's chest rig for bush carry, I think Camp Cook was getting one made up so maybe he can chime in here. Having said that you might have used drop leg rigs and like them...if so ignore my comment

Thanks for the help guys. I do like the crossdraw setup, don't get me wrong. The only reason I was thinking drop leg styling was to keep the weight of the xframe off of my upper body and out of the way of packs and such on the odd steep scramble. Not so much the tacticool look, but the positioning for draw and weight distribution (and I really don't think there is a tacticool look in saddle leather...lol). I really like the flap over your holster as well 'geologist', more to add to my order.

I got a good link in my PM's as well, so I think I might get one built up and give it a whirl.

The higher on your body you position your holster, the drier and cleaner/less malfunction prone (ie. protected from bush crud) your sidearm will be.

Cross-draw for wilderness defense is good because it allows you to access your sidearm with either hand. The disadvantages of crossdraw for CCW users such as easy access for a gun grab by the BG and sweeping others with your muzzle on the draw do not generally apply to a wilderness defense ATC user such as us.

Rob Leahy's Simply Rugged pancake style holsters are a good option if you like a pancake style. The quality of both the leather and the workmanship is top notch. I have a pair of these holsters, as well as a couple of belts and cartridge slides. I ordered an open muzzle and a third belt notch so I could carry strong side or cross draw. For plain good looks, functionality, and a reasonable price, these products are very good. They claim that you do not need a retention strap due to the pancake design, but my ATC requires that there is one so I had it ordered. They also have a thumb snap design.

Lots of input, thanks guys. I'm going to try to dig up a crossdraw style holster or mock one up and see how it feels.....and I'll look around at the vendors you mentioned as well......lots of options anyways. Thanks again.
