custom hunting rifle pic thread

This is my latest custom. The rifle is based on an original, Tom Burgess built, G33/40 action that was still in the white, and had Burgess custom mounts and safety.

The action was then hauled it over to D'Arcy Echol's shop for his Legend treatment. He brought the blueprinting up to his standards and installed a Krieger barrel of his own contour chambered in 30-06 Springfield. He also installed a Recknagel trigger and a speed-lock firing pin spring before fitting a McMillan stock.

The next stage will be having D'Arcy craft one of his walnut stocks, feel such a rifle desires it.

Two entries:

.375 H&H based on a Remington 700 SS L/A. McGowen barrel, McMillan game warden adjustable stock, Accurate Mag DBM and mags, TriggerTech trigger, NEAR rail, ATRS rings, Nightforce NXS 2.5-10x42 scope. Heavy, but it points great and handles recoil very well. This is a .375 H&H I can shoot prone without needing my spine realigned. I got the barrel from Jerry at Mystic Precision. Cerakote and assembly was done by Terry at Black Art Rifle.

.308 based on a Remington 700 SS S/A. This one is still being worked on by Terry. This is the second life of my much beloved Remington 700 5R Gen II. It will also replace a Mountain SS that I hunted with. Carbon Six barrel, McMillan Game Warden carbon fiber stock, Magpul DBM and Accurate Mags, Trigger Tech trigger, NEAR Rail, ATRS rings, this one will also wear a Nightforce NXS 2.5-10x42 scope. Jerry again supplied the barrel and Terry will finish the assembly and Cerakote. All the metal on the barreled action will be Cerakoted in McMillan tan, the bolt will kept black, not unlike the way Proof Research finishes their rifles. Jury is still out on the finished weight, I'm aiming for 7 lbs without scope.

Did you pick that up from Chet? Nice rifle!

Rem 700 in 7-08, 22", Rob MacLennan 12 flute barrel and Rob's short 1 chamber brake
Mac HTG stock with AI bottom metal
Leupold in pic is a 3.5-10x40 but she now wears a Nightforce SHV 3-10 (the white beads on the scope are a good luck charm my daughter made me years ago)
She's killed a truck load of deer and is on the never sell list.

I picked up a Stiller Predator SA Single Shot action about a year ago and have been collecting parts since, wanted it to look like a hunting rifle but perform like a target rifle.......so here's what Gunsmith Gary Flach put together for me.

28" Bartlein SS Sendero Contour, 1-8 twist 5R barrel

Chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor

Timney Calvin Elite set at 1lb

Wildcat Var-Tac stock, palm swell and a cool green paint job

Talley's holding a Zeiss V4 6-24x50 scope

Gary Gunkoted everything in a new awesome looking Green/Black brushed Stainless Gunkote (custom blend)

I'm having one put together by Insite Arms similar to your second rifle. I managed to collect all the parts except the barrel here on CGN (I could have got the barrel too but was too slow on a response and someone beat me to it!) It'll be based off of a Rem 700 S/A, CarbonSix Barrel in sendero contour to finish at 22" from Jerry at Mystic Precision, McMillan game scout carbon fiber stock, Trigger Tech Primary trigger, HS Precision Gen 1 bottom metal, and ATRS small bolt knob. It'll be chambered in 7mm-08 AI. All the metal parts will be done in burnt bronze and the stock in sig dark grey cerakote. It'll wear a Leupold VX3i 4.5-14x40 with 30mm tube. I'm aiming to have it all come in under 8 lbs. I can't wait until it's finished.

It should turn out great! Mine ended up with a finished weight of 7 1/4 lbs, all in except for scope and rings, mostly due to the last minute addition of a muzzle brake. The brake was 3.1 oz. McMillan did their part with the Gamescout stock coming in at 26 oz. Barreled action came in at just over 5.5 lbs. It's no ultralight but it will be the perfect replacement for the 6.5 lbs 700 Mountain SS and 10+ lbs 700 5R in McMillan A5 that came before it. Life's getting in the way of shooting right now, so I won't get to put it through it's paces for a while yet.
