I actually used Crayola crayons. I heated the metal up a little with a blow dryer, rubbed/melted the colour I wanted into the engraving and after letting it dry I used some thinners to lightly rub off the excess crayon. Thats it, thats all. Very easy for a great look I think.

looks cool, well done,

Interesting stuff. I'd be curious to see what happens when the barrel and slide start heating up after a few mags?

Just an fyi on the pics... there is a little icon that looks like a mountain with a yellow sky (I don't understand the yellow sky either but there it is). That the 'Image' icon for adding pictures.

However, if you're using Photobucket (you are;)), just choose the IMG Code which automatically puts the Img quotations on. Then its just copy and paste.

Thanks for the info about the pic posting. I don't think the heat of a few mags will cause too much of a problem, just figure it will cool before any "running" of the crayon. Only time will tell though! I'm also excited to see how it looks on my Norinco ar15 that on it's way :).

I did the same thing on my M&P except I used a Markal paint stick. Sorry to say the white turned kinda yellow with the heat.

Has anyone figured out a more permanent way to do this? I've seen crayon, grease pencil, nail polish, and model paint, but all are too easily removed when cleaning the weapon. Anyone have any idea what the manufacturers use for colouring in safeties and such??

(Maybe dyed epoxy? Would that be worth a try?)

I haven't seen it at any retailers in Canada but you can order it from Brownells. It comes in a few colours... Red, White, Black and Gold I think?
