Hey all!

Has anybody heard of these in Canada? Basically add a hood to your Kydex or basic holster?

Thanks!

Why? In Canada a holster is only a parking spot for our guns while at the range. We're not carrying our guns around where some bad person would try to steal it and shoot us like a police officer or perhaps armored car operators might need. And if you're using your holster to draw from in competition why would you want a second level of retention that slows down your drawing?

For some like myself I like the hood because I like to have the same type of gear that I have while working. When at the range I tend to train more than I plink.

Tim over at Soley Canadian makes level 2 holsters with that style snap hood. The one he made for me is awesome! Perfect for run and gun, as the gun is never coming to come out of the holster and get you a DQ.

And you and others like you are wise to do so. It's good to practice in matches with the stuff you are betting your life on or at least something that feels and acts the same. We have a few police and guards that use their duty gear in matches for just this reason. And a great one it is.

I can see this for something like three gun or similar where you're running with a rifle or shotgun and it's not time to use the handgun yet.

I have to admit that in my earlier reply I didn't think of this application. I was focused on "handgun only" events where if I'm running it's with the gun in my hand.

I think Wilderness Carry ATC rules stipulate a level 2 holster.
Gov doesnt want guys losing their handguns due to cheap junk holsters.
