Custom M-14 Aluminium Stock w. Picatinny Rails

$175 dollars cheaper at Marstar.

Hmmmm.... are they the same stock at Milarm and Marstar?

Does anyone know if you can still use the irons with this stock?

Does it make for a good scope platform?

Do you have to replace the op-rod guide like with the SAGE?

SOMEONE DO A REVIEW?

Jeff

DUKE NUKEM and I have one on the way for an EBRSOPMODS.com review.

Stay tuned...:dancingbanana:

Aluminum, hmmmmm

Well boyz she looks mighty fine, and I'm no expert, but shouldn't a stock be made of the most rigid material possible? Isn't that why it's recommended scope mounts are not made from aluminum? Still, looking forward to the review. I've been dreaming of the SAGE, but since I can't get a decent deal on it this may just be the solution to my problem.

Try hauling around a chunk of steel this size, and you'll soon realize why it'd made of aluminum...

It'd weigh 20lbs if it was steel!

Wouldn't it still be a beast with that much aluminum?

Looks like a dodgy set-up to me....no steel where you need steel and not enough synthetic where you want it.

Hey guys I just weighed the stock at 4.5 lbs buy itself . A normal m14 is 9.8 lbs with mag , with new stock and one mag rifle weighs in at 11.5 lbs.

Forgot. the one that we assembled at the shop took some time because it is a very very tight fit . But we did not have to fit anything. I am busy but I will keep an eye this way for anymore questions.

The Marstar and Milarm stock are the same manufacturer BUT... The Milarm version has the improvement mods. The mag well has been opened up, the top rail has been inletted to allow use of the iron sights, and a couple of other mods that I forgot about. Give them a call for the rundown (780) 424-5281. I think they just recieved 20 of them... Marstar has a limited quantity. Whether they are worth the extra cash, well, thats up to you. They do look snarky, but I'll stick with my Vltor.

Not really, no. Depending on alloy, aluminum can be practically as strong as steel, it really depends on what you are trying to do. - dan

What kind of alloy and steel are you talking about?? Aluminum gets its strength from being anodized.

Type 3 anodizing is simply an exterior oxide coating which leaves the core soft. Once the anodizing has worn off it's still just "soft" aluminum.
The most commonly used alloy is 7075 or 6061.

In the end aluminum is always soft, thats why there are coatings. Aluminum is never all that strong compared to steel.

Not precisely true. Where one has to use pieces of near-identical size and shape, it it true; however where one can use pieces of near identical weight the aluminum alloy will be only slightly weaker; but it can be stiffer because of the larger thickness.

T6 or T351 treated 7075 or 6061 can be very strong. aluminum is lighter, but its modulus of elasticity is 1/3 that of steel's it will deflect more given equal size under equal load.

The strongest aluminum won't touch a high end steel, but it will have a tensile strength of 70 000 psi or more, which is on par with some carbon steels, and is more than enough for a a stock or scope mount. Anodizing does nothing for the strength of aluminum, the aluminum oxide just gives the surface a higher hardness.

So do you steel need a steel scope mount and this thing? One of the Marstar pictures has a rail over the bolt, the others do not. Hmmm.
x2
and I still would like to know what kind of stock you can mount on these...is it any AR "type" stock????
