Sounds like a combination build by a bunch of the best retro American makers, 1980s somewhere, worth +/- $2000 what they are asking in Canada, about right in the U.S.A.

Well my Father has a Mauser in 308 with a Krieger barrel, Mcmillan stock, Leupod rings and scope, and back then it was 2700$.

I could see around 4000$, but that's pushing it.

My Hart 22" barrel Mauser in 308 wasn't more than 1000$.

All of the mentioned brands and makers would've come from the pre-Brownell's or Midway U.S.A. era. Most of what is understood as American-style custom work ie was developed by this 'school' which includes Weatherby and etc; they're as formative to American style in their own right as Griffin & Howe, Springfield Armory, Hatcher or Clyde Baker was in the generation before that.

Unfortunately, the rifle has been dipped in nail polish.

I was wondering how long it would be before someone commented here about that rifle. I can only assume it’s a consignment item, as I have a hard time imagining any reputable dealer overvaluing a rifle that much.

On the other hand those pregnant stocks are nearly priceless.

I was thinking along that lines: impregnated stock might pop out some new babies... priceless.

Seriously though:
-NEG probably is NECG - New England Custom Gun.... www.newenglandcustomgun.com and they deal in expensive things.
-EAW quick-loc rings/bases are something I came across when looking for claw mounts for a drilling: If memory serves, the claw mounts were 3x more than the EAW setup... and they are around $500USD.
-Just a stab in the dark: proper aperture sights are more expensive than most people think and EAW are probably high end cost.
-McMillan stocks are not low end either
-Kahles scope is only about 1k

Summary... eww. What possessed someone to do what they did to that gun is a mystery: it is butt ugly. However, there are some expensive components on it that are desirable. That's just a horrible combination of finish and components and I wouldn't pay 2g for that reason, even though the components easily exceed that value. I've not yet found Accuracy Plus to be unreasonable: But of all the guns I've watched sit unsold for a long time, this might break the record.

Kinda comforting to see that someone putting together 'their' random collection of otherwise good parts, and deciding that they should be able to get back all their money, adjusted for inflation, plus get paid a lot for their effort, including a decent wage for every hunting story ever told that included it, and so on, and so on....

See guys! It's not just in the EE this stuff happens! Lol!

What it cost to build and what it is worth are two entirely different concepts.

This is what happens when you free the weed. People get high off their ass and create abominations like this rifle. Then they double down when the ganja wears off and think they will recoup, or worse make, money.

Decimal is in the wrong place on this.

Dear G*d... let's not revive the "King Optics" thread again :p Does kinda fit, though- unfortunately.

Glad someone remembers some of the all time CGN classic threads! The King optics thread ranks right up there with the all-time greats like "shooting at rocks" and "can I shoot into space?";)
