I scored myself a Stevens 200 in .223 :D
Yes I know it's not a main battle rifle, but I've seen some pretty cool custom paint jobs on synthetic M14 stocks in this forum. I figured there are some guys in here with experience in this.
I am planning on eventualy redoing the flat green to ### it up a bit.
I am new to this.
So,
1- What are the best paints to use? Brand, type?
2- Do you do a protective finish on the job after? What products/brands do
you recommend?
Educate me people.
Any and all help will be welcomed and appreciated!

Your best bet is Krylon Fusin Camo. Availlable in OD Green
Then seal it with Rona brand matte clear laquer. 2 to 3 coats of clear over 2 to 3 light coats of the krylon.

If it's a plastic type, zytel ect, you'll have to degrease thoroughly and use an adhesion promoter as a primer coat.
If its a fiberglass type, krylon primer , 2 light coats will do.

OR
Send it off to the good folks at Cobra Imaging for a water transfer application. This is truly the best route for custom finishing a non fiberglass synthetic stock. This is due to the poor adhesion of paints to many "plastic" type synthetic stocks.

The BEST firearm coating to use is Duracoat. Unless you like repainting it, over and over and over...

Krylon WILL chip off, with or w/o the clear coat. Duracoat is designed for use on firearms.

Good luck with your project :)

Krylon is perfectly fine for painting stocks/firearms.......Sure it isn't as durable as the specialty coating, but if you take care of your stuff it will last..........Krylon can also be removed if you decide to change things up........

With any type of coating, surface prep is the key!!!!!!

I have painted many, many stocks/firearms with krylon and the paint has turned out to be pretty durable........

However I do prefer Gun-Kote............

Hmmmmmm.............Might have to start doing paint work again...........;)
