Just wondering how many of you own a custom wheelgun? Cut down barrels, bull barrels, any modifications really. Are you happy with the final result? Why did you decide to go that way? Who did that job for you? Post some pictures and your impressions, please. Just wondering about some options and would be great to learn about your experience. Thanks.

Interesting question. My revolvers are all pretty much stock. It does raise a question I've often wondered about though....... With all the high end custom 1911's around (Wilson Combat, Ed Brown etc etc) why isn't somebody doing something similar and offering high end custom or semi custom revolvers?
They did. It was just back in the late 80's and early 90's before the advent/availability of the "wonder nines". Going to a pistol shoot in those days saw lots of "K" frames with custom stainless barrels in various lengths, custom grips, aftermarket sights. But with the coming of the high-capacity nines and the popularity of the auto-loader the venerable old revolvers faded from view to a great extent. Companies all began producing new and better auto's, in new and better calibers, until today where we have a myriad of different styles of auto-loader, but still pretty much the same revolvers (with a few minor differences) that we had 30 to 40 years ago.
My father has an old Model 14 that had been done up as a bullseye gun years ago by a local police armourer.
It's a nice shooter, but that big fugly BoMar rib ruins it.
Can't stand modified/molested competition revolvers, personally. Spoils them utterly.

I'm with you on that one Mark-II
I was thinking more of a revolver that would be to a S&W 686 or Ruger GP100 what a Wilson Combat is to a Remington R1 or a S&W E series
PPC revolvers were made with the special task in mind. I was thinking more about a regular revolver with custom touches that turn them into something...well, special?
For example, I don't like balance of a 6" barrel.
Too front heavy for my style. I like lighter, shorter barrels better.
I can shoot it just fine, but a shorter barrel sits more natural in my hand...
I know that we can buy GP 100 Champion or whatever it's called, but I was thinking...something more classic.

Competition revolvers are really neat. I would like one, but do not have the money needed for something worthwhile.

This model 19 is done by Murray Charlton of course (why not use the best is what I was thinking there). The wait was long but well worth it. If I can ever free up some time to get to some 3-gun this year, this is going to serve as my handgun. I use jet loaders and find for my skill level I can load them almost as fast as my moonclipped guns. I have a 627 V-comp 8 shooter, that might be a little more suited to 3-gun due to being able to hold 8 rounds and the fact that you can use moonclips but I shoot this one way better and just downright like it more.

Sweet. Is the barrel 5" now? Can you remember how long was the turnover time? Thanks for posting.
I think turnaround is going to vary by gunsmith, their workload and what you're getting done. I had a full house custom Delta Elite done by Joe Dlask a bunch of years ago and it was a year. Patience is definitely a virtue when if comes to some projects but like I said before it's usually worth the wait.
I had my 7.5" barreled Ruger Super Redhawk in 454 Casull shortened to 4.25" by Gunnar @ Armco in Prince George, BC also had him install/machine in his front sight and install a spring kit, I installed a .330" green fiber optic front sight post and Crimson Trace laser grips also installed black/gray laminate grip side panels had a fellow in the States make them for me.
