i see a lot of nice lookin 10/22's on here, does ruger sell "custom" rifles or do i have to buy a stock 10/22 and throw away half of it and buy aftermarket parts? (stock, barrel)

i would prefer to pay a few more up front and buy what i am looking for, than to do it myself (the hard way).

Find the best deal they go on sale for 289-300 ish new for the carbine when there on sale. There is good ee deals too just depends how you want it dressed. Ruger sells them in lots of different models . Basically it's the carbine, take down, tactical, target. There is options from the factory for 20+ variations of these base models. There all good you can also pay a premium, to get a magnum research, Kidd or dlask, volquartsen, tac sol etc. Not made by ruger, however all very good if not better depending on what your after.
You could just build one but you won't save any money. Or upgrade a stock one but you are not going to save much if you replace every part. If you are into modding there kind of fun.

If you like modding that much, then don't bother starting with a ruger at all. Find a receiver of your choice and go from there. A dlask basic isn't much more if not less than some more expensive 10/22 configurations and probably getting twice the rifle with only a few future modifications (trigger group) to worry about obsessing about in the future.

Watch the EE for what you are looking for. Modded 10/22's generally command a price that is substantially lower than the original investment, which tends to provide good value for the buyer.

Here's what I did.

Bought a stock 50th 10/22, black barrel. Black synthetic stock. Shot it a LOT. Out probably 5000 sounds through it. Decided what I liked. Decided what I didn't like.

Ended up changing a whole bunch of stuff and love my 10/22 even more. New trigger, red dot, stock, barrel, and polished the internals. Runs better than ever!

The idea is buy a stock one and build it. It's a great way to get exactly what you want.

No the idea is build exactly what you want... if you don't want Ruger OEM parts left over, then assemble all of the parts yourself... or buy the stock Ruger 10/22 and keep changing parts until you can reassemble the original rifle and then sell it.

This:agree:
And if you happen to want some ruger OEM parts, you can usually find what you want on the EE for a good price from everyone who upgraded everything but the receiver.

ok i will do like mr cash say's " i will get it one piece at a time"

so lets start with the barrel, what is the best barrel length to keep wallmart regular grade .22 ammo at around 1000pfs?

does any body have any hands on experience or advice on boyds laminated thumb hole stocks? heave/light, balance (barrel length), practical or more for looks?
