Do any Canadian Smiths or Vendors specialize in Mini-30's? What I am looking for is a rifle complete with or the option to include a trigger job, accurized barrel, ASI gas block, accustrut, the works. A real tuned Ruger.

I imported one from asi in 6.8 a couple years back, safe queen till i could get around to playing with it but did this winter, experimented with couple things as i get my feet wet with auto-loading centerfire for hunting, ditched the asi forward blow comp(mostly because #####ed it trying to get it off as cleaning with it on was pain trying to get pull throughs not to hang up etc.)....tried without brake and leupy vxII with low rings, very sporter build, after failing to nail an easy double on the coyotes i've gone to trijicon 1-4x green triangle in extra highs and Henry Rempel did a brake for me to keep muzzle jump down, i can see it will possibly do the odd sub-moa 3 shot group that they sent test target with but real world its easy 1.5-2moa with hornady 110v-max and rem 115 otm for 5 shot groups....but i get 195 fps faster with the hornady! mine is 21" barrel and last chrony had the 115 rem otms at 2525 fps for 5 shot string (1628 ft/lbs) and the hornady went 2720 (1807 ft/lbs), on a bipod it sure doesn't move much, no muzzle flip, just a little rearward inertia

Henry showed me an m14 of one of his customers that is sub-moa to 1000 that was fully customized, custom gas block and free floated the barrel/gas system etc. Not sure what he can do for a mini in that regard as i had him look at mine so he just addressed the bedding on mine so it really clamps in hard with the trigger guard now, plus it has two of the three pillar beds from asi also but doubt they are necessary after the bedding. It may not be possible to 'hang' the gas system under the barrel like the m14 so a full free float may not be possible...but i'm happy with mine for its intended use. Sure are fun to shoot.

he usually does benchrest guns but he keeps amazing me with his ability to do 'whatever', so if your in calgary you should go talk to him, suppose you could ship stuff back and forth etc. pm me if you would like his number

the trigger job i'm sure would be easy one for him, i'm happy with my 3.5 lb jobbie from asi and they put a little screw with a washer in front of trigger that you adjust the washer to push the slack/creep out of the trigger then screw down to hold the washer in place....kind of crude but simple and it works, i'm used to 2.0-2.75 lb triggers and i have no desire to have this one tuned any further...good nuff ;) :)

so i'm essentially done with mine, interesting process going from mainly bolt guy and used to finding/getting routine sub-moa etc. but pretty sure i'm done messing around with it now...

asi options from memory were 3/4" diam barrel at 21", adjustable gas block, trigger job, bell & carlson stock, satin finish etc.

the paint job is by me, i painted all but the barrelled action/trigger group, krylon, the muzzle brake by Henry Rempel...its all hunting from this point forward, coyotes/wolves/deer etc. as i didn't paint anything until i knew it i was happy with final configuration for my hunting requirements

hope that helps :)

why thankyou! i'm kinda waiting to see another like it in the country.........end of day i hope it encourages a little more mini action...i'm having a hoot with this thing! :)

nice compact little build, i figure might be the best thing to have in my hands should i pull in a pack of wolves some day while calling....that was my vision the entire process....of course i'll get well practiced on coyotes and even a few deer size big game in the meantime....that pack that comes in should it ever happen will be in deep doo doo ;) :)

the coyotes already are and they come in packs too, called in a pack of 7 while scouting this season.....to the truck of all things on permission we don't have so just had to watch...still got several of them to inside 250 yrds of the truck though :)

ps. on the easy double i failed to get.....i did get one of the coyotes, the other should have been a snap, got caught at 4x and run over to about 10' feet, scope too low, too much muzzle jump etc. too much magnification, i should have just held the gun out and pointed it and would have gotten the double....doh....after that however next chance was with the trijicon, once again got caught on 4x as just dialed up as watched 3 come in from 800 and they were turning about 125 to head downwind and about to go out of my sight to a buddy that had that side covered....when a big male bust in on me on opposite side at 15 yrds but with the changes and even getting caught at 4x is was enough to catch him on shot 2....really wasn't expecting that to happen with the 3 already coming in but sure seems easier to be quicker with the trijicon up high than the leupy down low

haven't seen many custom mini 30s... its refreshing, inspiring and wallet terrifying. looks really good, and its good to know about someone in Calgary area that will work on them with excellent results.
good to know the trigger can also be adjusted from the 7 pound abomination.

got a little youtube (my first) for yall, as i wanted to see how much the barrel moved after the brake install

this is with hornady, i chronied five right after this vid at 2720 with es of 58 fps, shot not a bad group either ;)

I'm convinced Henry Rempel can do anything to make any gun shoot better! He could care less about esthetics so if you want pretty send it to someone else...if you want it to shoot...or do crazy custom work, metal work he is a wizard (machinest by trade)....but he 'gets it' when it comes to accuracy!

oh, i'll keep an eye out for a used mini just for the action, order some bits like a stock and then have Henry do the rest, you could get an asi gas block but i bet Henry could build a better one and maybe even less money, his prices rock....but having seen the m-14 he build custom gas block for etc. i have no doubt i'd probably only need to send him an action and a stock and he'll do the rest (barrel/block/bedding/trigger etc.)...so if i do another that is how i'll do it....not the pia way of importing and asi jobbie....and i bet a bunch i come in less money than asi too!

builds lots of benchrest guns, believe he wins lots of shooting stuff himself, possibly some national titles in silhouette? i've never asked him about it, the buddy that got me to him was telling me that sort of stuff, i do believe its impressive list of stuff however...being strictly hunting focused its not something i get too interested about so wish i could comment further but i'm guessing if you've heard the name it has more to do with that stuff than working on 'black and green' rifles ;)

I'd be interested in sending him a stock and receiver and then having him build me a 7.62x39. I'll have to make an inquiry.
