I imported one from asi in 6.8 a couple years back, safe queen till i could get around to playing with it but did this winter, experimented with couple things as i get my feet wet with auto-loading centerfire for hunting, ditched the asi forward blow comp(mostly because #####ed it trying to get it off as cleaning with it on was pain trying to get pull throughs not to hang up etc.)....tried without brake and leupy vxII with low rings, very sporter build, after failing to nail an easy double on the coyotes i've gone to trijicon 1-4x green triangle in extra highs and Henry Rempel did a brake for me to keep muzzle jump down, i can see it will possibly do the odd sub-moa 3 shot group that they sent test target with but real world its easy 1.5-2moa with hornady 110v-max and rem 115 otm for 5 shot groups....but i get 195 fps faster with the hornady! mine is 21" barrel and last chrony had the 115 rem otms at 2525 fps for 5 shot string (1628 ft/lbs) and the hornady went 2720 (1807 ft/lbs), on a bipod it sure doesn't move much, no muzzle flip, just a little rearward inertia
Henry showed me an m14 of one of his customers that is sub-moa to 1000 that was fully customized, custom gas block and free floated the barrel/gas system etc. Not sure what he can do for a mini in that regard as i had him look at mine so he just addressed the bedding on mine so it really clamps in hard with the trigger guard now, plus it has two of the three pillar beds from asi also but doubt they are necessary after the bedding. It may not be possible to 'hang' the gas system under the barrel like the m14 so a full free float may not be possible...but i'm happy with mine for its intended use. Sure are fun to shoot.
he usually does benchrest guns but he keeps amazing me with his ability to do 'whatever', so if your in calgary you should go talk to him, suppose you could ship stuff back and forth etc. pm me if you would like his number
the trigger job i'm sure would be easy one for him, i'm happy with my 3.5 lb jobbie from asi and they put a little screw with a washer in front of trigger that you adjust the washer to push the slack/creep out of the trigger then screw down to hold the washer in place....kind of crude but simple and it works, i'm used to 2.0-2.75 lb triggers and i have no desire to have this one tuned any further...good nuff
so i'm essentially done with mine, interesting process going from mainly bolt guy and used to finding/getting routine sub-moa etc. but pretty sure i'm done messing around with it now...
asi options from memory were 3/4" diam barrel at 21", adjustable gas block, trigger job, bell & carlson stock, satin finish etc.
the paint job is by me, i painted all but the barrelled action/trigger group, krylon, the muzzle brake by Henry Rempel...its all hunting from this point forward, coyotes/wolves/deer etc. as i didn't paint anything until i knew it i was happy with final configuration for my hunting requirements
hope that helps
