Any recommendations on quality stock painting? Who and where? Not interested in camo...more the splashy colorful type!

Goofy as it sounds - tattoo parlors.
Some amazing graphic work being done. Many will do custom airbrush work and their studios usually have tons of graphics to choose from.
Another would be shops that do helmets and goalie masks. Ask at you local hockey rink or off road bike shop.
top coat with an automotive clear coat or one of the baked on paints (watch compatibility) and it should stand up well to range use.
Will have a look at that on a future stock.

This is just the thing I am getting into right now. I have used automotive clear and done a few laminate stocks and now want to branch off and lay down some graphics on stocks. Starting out, just going to keep it pretty basic airbrushing , lightning, realistic flames, lava... What kind of stock is it, wood or fiberglass?

I did some bodywork to the stocks, so required painting. I just suggested what I wanted and
left the rest up to the artist and got what I got.

So what would the likelihood be that a tattoo artist would be able to do the final finish with a deep clearcoat? I understand they would do a beautiful paint job...graphics etc, I suppose they could clearcoat also ?????

I have personally rubbed my crotch......ermmmm.....I mean fondled the clown stock and they did an AMAZING job on the airbrushing and the finish.
Not sure if I have seen this one in person yet, but I would defile it just the same.

I dabble a bit in the airbrush scene. The best advice I can give is find a talented artist (like the pics earlier in this thread) have them paint it and make sure it is covered with GOOD automotive clear. A good paintjob and clearcoat together make all the difference in the world. The clear is what will protect the paint for years to come. Skimp on that and your money could be tossed out the window.
Just for fun (by no means am I in the same class as these other guys) but here are some lids and things that I have done for friends in the past.
Goalie mask for a kid who's nickname was "the Baron"
fun sled helmet for a buddy. gets lot's of looks on the trail as it stands out with that bright red.
My old crossbow stock
Spiderman helmet. First thing I ever painted with my airbrush.
