Custom vs Factory Rifle

If you want a custom action and want it to be good, watch what the winning shooters are shooting and who built the guns.

That pretty much boils off all the non-sense.

Otherwise opinions run strong on every forum.

You need to narrow it down a bit more than that. Winning at what discipline? I was just at a PR championship match, the guy that won was using an AI. It's a great rifle but that does not determine who wins what.
Any of the rifles or options the OP is looking at are all good to go.

To be honest, since your a big fan of Accuracy International, get yourself a badger ordnance action. Its an improved version of AI's actions. You could make a AI with ought spending AI price. Get a good barrel make, even a AI stock if you want. Boom, done. Upwards of 3K easy tho, with no glass.

IIRC, I saw a build posted on the Chou Brother's website of exactly this build.

I like the PR blog too but if you look at what wins in each year (I know there hasn't been that many years of data) it changes. Some years there is an AI and others not. Surgeon was big for one year then it fell off of the charts. Get a good factory rifle, get a good custom, either one will probably shoot better than you.

I find though that if I have an itch for something you might as well get it because otherwise that itch will still be there. If an AI is that itch, get an AI. Also, if an AI is not your thing you can sell it for nearly what you paid. Customs (maybe a TacOps would) always take a loss.

There are lots of great options out there and you don't need to spend a ton of cash to get a good shooter.
Lots of stock factory rifles can shoot very well, but you're rolling the dice and can get everything from exceptional to garbage.
Most custom rigs by a competent smith are usually guaranteed to be good whether it's a custom action or tuned factory action.

The PRS equipment list isn't the end all be all for what's the best equipment out there as sponsorship plays a big role especially with top shooters and it's the hot thing for tactical competition right now. That market is there for the taking and the PRS series is the perfect ride for good marketing.
