Hey guys I am going to have a custom barrel made for my XCR and I am needing a little help. I was considering having one made in .223 at first and maybe a 6.5 Grendel down the road. I was wondering what a good barrel brand is and barrel length, I was thinking 20 inches long without a muzzle break. Let me know what you would do, or if you have had one made some pictures and accuracy reports would be awesome!

I had Ian at Herron Ams make me a shorty barrel in 6.5 Grendel, as well as one in 7.65X39 (This was prior to availability of the 'pistol' XCRs).
I've never done any accuracy testing with these, but they have functioned well in a CQB type of shooting environment.
I believe he tends to use Green Mountain barrels, but you could go with any of the 'major's as well.
Just remember, for your new barrel, you'll require a 'donor' barrel for the receiver extention and the gas system.

How hard is the 6.5 grendel ammo to find. I have a 7.62x39 conversion kit and a .223 conversion kit, so i could do one in each caliber. I want to do a .223 first just because it is pretty easy to come ammo for it.

6.5 Grendel is pretty scarce. I had picked up some Wolf FMJ factory, which I"m using to generate brass for reloading.
Regarding getting another barrel (non-restricted), you might want to reconsider.
I don't think putting a better than stock barrel on is going to get you much more in terms of accuracy.
The stock 7.62X39, non-restricted barrel, is supposed to get pretty decent accuracy (2MOA or better) even using military surplus, and I'm sure the .223 is probably in the same ball park.
It goes back to your reason for wanting the aftermarket barrels in the first place.

I went the other way....shorter than stock...in order to make the XCR quite a bit more 'handy' doing CQB type of shooting.
I'm limited to using the shorter barrels at the range only, but that's not an issue for me.
I'll probably do the same thing in .223, and then I'll have my choice of shorty .223, 6.5Grendel, and 7.62X39.

I think my .223 barrel for my xcr is possibly been shot out by the previous owner. I had it out at the range yesterday, and at 50 yards the best i was able to shoot with it was about a 3 inch group. That was even with a 3-9 power scope and a shooting rest. I was using only cheap ammo but i have tried all kinds of good quality ammo through it ranging from 42 grain to 77 grain I believe and could not get it to do any kind of group. With the 7.62x39 I have shot 1 inch groups, at 100 yards, using PPU 123 grain soft points. So i am pretty sure my .223 barrel is toast.

I doubt the previous owner shot out the .223 barrel. That would require over 10,000 rounds. Give the barrel a good cleaning and use a copper solvent. If that doesn't work, have a gunsmith take a look at it, make sure the crown is good and if not, have him re-crown it.
