Hi everyone,

I have a 700 LSS in 270WSM, a rifle that I liked for the last 4 hunting seasons. I'm not realy into buying a long range shooting toy so i'm thinking about customizing my actual rifle that is good, I think!!!

First, i'm about to take off my Nikon Prostaff for a new scope... something between Bushnell Elite 3200 or any Leupold. I spotted a bushnell in dark earth finish at my local store, but still don't know the model.

As I will keep the laminated stock and the stainless barrel, what should I look for to customize bolt action, trigger, base plate & internal magazine and scope mounts???

I would like to get a little of the "cool-factors" we find on long range toys on my hunting toy...

Thanks to all!!!

Get youself a nice Leupold, (not a Bushnell in dirt tone), good mounts, and get the gun accurized by a good gunsmith. If you don't reload, spend your money on that and learn how.

Forget about all the little "cool-factors". They won't help you shoot smaller groups or kill more game.

Definitely get a Leupold!!

Factory 700 triggers can be adjusted to give a light crisp pull. You shouldn't need a new trigger unless money is burning a hole in your pocket.

I like Leupold and Burris steel rings. I really like the Burris Signature Zee rings with the inserts.

Ken Farrell makes an excellent picatinny rail and ships to Canada.

A large bolt knob may be to your liking.

Getting the bolt jeweled may also be an option.

Blueprinting the action and glass bedding may be better use of your money as it can/will improve accuracy whereas many of the other mods are pretty much cosmetic only.

Here is what I did to mine, Leupold scope, titianium firing pin, pillar bedded, a trigger that is adjustable down to ozs., I think mine is set at around six and a wood stock which was refinished and recheckered. This particular 700 is a .220 Swift, my to go varminting gun, it is the most accurate rifle I have ever owned and I have owned several "sub minute of angle" in my day. Almost forgot, I purchased all the "add ons" from Brownells. --- John303.

Thanks for the advices, I'll take a serious look on a good Leupold and some nice mounts and rings and i'm happy to learn about the factory trigger.

.270wsm is considered as a short action right?

I gave a look to Ken Farrell. Since I don't know anything about MOA, what's the difference between 10, 20 or 30 MOA?

If you plan on shooting very long distances such as 1000 yards, some scopes don't offer enough adjustment so bases with a tilt are used (or regular bases are shimmed). MOA (Minute of angle = approx 1 inch @ 100yards)

You would want the 0 MOA unless you change your mind and decide to go for 600-1000 yard shots. Even then, the Leupold may have enough adjustment on its own.

Another vote for Leupold. VX2 4-12x40AO with LR duplex or a VX3 in either a 3.5-10x40 or 4.5-14x40 withthe BC reticle would be a great scope addition. I have the later 2 scopes on two Tikka T3 LS 270WSM rilfes shooting 140gr Accubonds. I have the VX2 scope mentioned on a Sako m75ss 243.

I cant comment on the other questions b/c I dont know about upgrades for a Remington m700 rifle. I'm a Sako m75 and Tikka T3 guy.

As mentioned by SuperCub, get into the reloading for your rifle.

Bed, float, set and/or swap the trigger out and stick a quality scope on it. I'm thinking maybe a 4.5-14 Mark 4. Start reloading and start thinking about barrels being disposable.

Blueprint the Action, have the barrel set back a 1/2" and rechambered (or get a new barrel). Guntech does good work on this site. Have the thing bedded properly, and get a good trigger. No, a "tuned" Remington isn't as good as a Shilen or a Jewel. Get yourself a good set of Talley rings (the one piece ultralights) and have them lapped. Buy a good Leupold (a 4.5-14x40 LR would be nice). Send it to Korth and have an elevation turret put on (pick the one you like). Get a good load working (I would suggest Ramshot Magnum and 140gr Accubonds) with your newly acquired reloading equipment (I recommend Redding and then RCBS, in that order)
When you get a load setup, and dialed in, start walking your trajectory out past 100 in 25yd increments keeping "click" notes. Then have a custom tower made for your new scope.
Make sure you have a good range finder.
