Poly Charger has drop-in unit Kidd 2 stage trigger (12oz), Kidd heavy match bbl, Kidd bolt, charging handle and recoil spring kit. Fabricated a tang to add a second hold down screw to stabilize the receiver. Mueller 8-32x44 side focus scope.

Laminate Charger is stock except for a drop-in unit Kidd single stage trigger (1lb 6 oz) and a second hold down receiver screw. UTG 4-12x44 side focus scope

fabricated tang

minimal stock modification to fit tang

hogged out stock and installed a threaded brass insert for the rear screw

drilled an access hole for rear screw

capped off the access hole

Interesting... Looks like you're handy!!!

Not sure if you know, but these are probably the MOST HATED pistol in Canada. The RCMP (our Federal police force) used them as the reason to ridiculously limit the 10/22 rifle to 10 round magazines.

Don't forget that former member "littleairwolf" who conveniently sent the RCMP a list of all the +10 round magazines that fit the 10/22

We can see just how much design flaw for these to an extent that you need to go this far to stabilize the pistol. We hate the Chargers here as they effectively prevented every Canadian to own 25 rounders for our 10 22s.
I am just unsure why are you posting this here on CGN.

The 10/22 rifle has the same design "flaw"... a single takedown screw. Both 10/22 rifle and Charger stocks are inletted the same and one hold down screw is a pretty poor design at providing a stable receiver to stock interface. The rear part of the 10/22 factory design receiver is held in place by a loose fitting slip in connection. The factory receiver is tipped into place with the receiver and trigger housing engaging inletting in the stock....see arrows.

I'm gonna be adding second screws to my rifles too.

BTW Kidd offers a rear tang for the 10/22 but requires milling the receiver... See Kidd Rear Tang My solution can be done with basic tools...maybe some members on CGN will be inspired to try this mod on their 10/22's after seeing this post....how's that for a reason for posting on CGN?

that's too bad...maybe some newly elected officials could reverse that rule...

I'm going out today to enjoy my pistol...I just got the Kidd single stage trigger yesterday (was on sale for $199.99) and want to see how it performs...sans ear muffs

What kind of a jerk are you????

We don't "hate chargers" here... we are pro-guns here. If you hate the Charger, then YOU get off CGN!

The dumbass interpretations of the RCMP are not the fault of the Charger.

Don't listen to that Schmuck... nice mod for the second bolt hold down... an easy fix to a decades old problem. Thanks for posting.

customizing my Chargers

Hey rws53 - thanks for posting the pics.
I like the look of your style of hold down better than the Gunsmither or Kidd option I've seen on RFC. Do you think you will bother with bedding? Looks pretty solid.
Is the hold down bolt 1/4" ? And where did you source the cap/plug for the stock hole.
I've been trying to decide how to put a second action screw on my 10/22 for a Boyds Blaster but I don't have a lot of woodworking tools or experience with stocks/bedding- your set up looks fairly straight forward - even for me. Any additional info, specs, or pics you have of the pistol build or when you do up the rifles would be much appreciated.

Btw - shooting a suppressed pistol or rifle is something we can only dream of up here you lucky dog....LOL

I used a stainless 10-32 allen cap screw and matching brass wood insert for the second takedown screw on the wood stocked Charger. On the rear of the poly Charger I used the factory screw. 6-32 allen cap screws to attach tang to receiver. I mounted the tangs on the receiver high enough to provide clearance between the stock and tang...ie when screw is tightened the tang does not bottom out on stock but does pull receiver down onto the stocks bedding snugly. The plastic plug is 3/8". All sourced from Lowe's...although you should be able to find what you need from any larger hardware store. So far both guns seem to be stable...glass bedding this 2 screw setup would certainly be the ultimate.

I used a Dremel Tool to modify the stocks to provide room for the tangs.

im not gonna lie, i purchased a charger after the RCMP did their thing to us.
i figured if im gonna get penalized for the charger being up here im should at the very least actually HAVE one.

i like the rear tang mod.
ive been contemplating doing that to a couple of my Ruger's.
not 100% sold on it yet.
do you find that it actually does anything, like make it more stable?
i cant see it effecting accuracy much, the scope is mounted to the receiver and the barrel is mounted onto the receiver so as long as those 3 parts stay together solid like i dont really care what the stock is doing.

Why do you suppose benchrest shooters or any accuracy type shooters for that matter glass bed the receivers to the stock? You can't have a receiver floating around in the stock and expect any kind of consistent shot groups. The 10/22 design has a sloppy/loose receiver stock interface with its one screw front attachment and slip fit rear attachment. See post #5 in this thread. Adding a rear screw goes a long ways in stabilizing the receiver.

If you are shooting a Charger offhand or just plinking beer cans none of this would apply.
