Cut down Beretta CX4?

Has anyone here ever cut down a CX4 to just an inch or so before the stock? The restricted version has a 16 inch barrel, I think chopping it to 12 inch would make it handy. Legally can this be done. Its already restricted. It would be a poor mans 12/5 smg.
Any pictures would be great.
 
Double check this.

The C.C. says cutting or anything similar (may) render the item prohibited.

I think rebarreling to a shorter one may be a better alternative.
 
I think it makes sense, specially if you will put a muzzle break after trimming her down - a gun that does not have muzzle jump is absolutely lethal.
 
it's restricted, if you cut down the barrel to less than 457mm it will be prohibited. No where in the criminal code does it say that because something is already restricted the rules don't apply. read the CC definitions for yourself if you doubt it.

It is restricted due to barrel length. Cutting the barrel shorter will no make it more restricted. As it is already restricted because the barrel is to short, cutting it shorter will not make it prohib, as far as I can remember.

This has been covered before by AR15 users cutting down barrels. I believe the ruling was you can't make it more restricted.
 
Who in his right mind will be cutting Beretta Cx4 if one can instead re-classify it as non-restricted with longer barrel? That is where real fun begings.

Cutting works on something that is hopelessley confined to shooting range. Have a look at my Mechtech CCU after recent butchering.

this is poor man's SMG, the real one. CCU is only 300-400$ and 1911 probably in the same range. There was CCU with Glock frame for sale on EE for 500$.

As long as they barrel is longer than 4 1/4' it will not change the class at all, it will still be just restriced.


Of all the stuff I won the 9mm storm is probably my favourite, its so wickedly light and just feels perfect, the only downfall is the mag release position.

Yeah..I think if you cut a barrel more than 18.5 inches regardless of the OAL.

it would be a prohib....It is spelled out somewhere in the regs..

So I just did some reading:

Definition of a Prohibited Firearm

The Criminal Code states that a prohibited firearm is:

* a rifle or shotgun that has been altered to make it less than 660 mm (26 inches) in overall length;
* a rifle or shotgun that has been altered to make the barrel length less than 457 mm (18 inches) where the overall firearm length is 660 mm (26 inches) or more;

However, the stats on the CX4 from the factory are... OAL: 29.7 inches and Barrel Length: 16.6 inches
Soooooooo... I'm confused :D

If I had to interpret the law, I'd say you can remove as much barrel as you want (It was made UNDER 18"), but keep the OAL 26" or more... so do the FH and maybe add a couple spacers to the stock and you should be good to go (I am not a lawyer) :)

Yes, it's still restricted but it's cheaper to chop and thread a barrel than to buy a new barrel ;)

Looks like you could take a spacer out of the butt stock as well....

I dont think the OAL means anything in this case because its allready restricted, OAL comes into play with non-restricted rifles and shotguns.
