Is there a legal way of cutting a 28 shotgun barrel to a say 12,5-18 inches barrel( the shotgun would stay over 26 inches in total)

and add a bead where the shotgun was cut?

how would they know since the registry is dead that the barrel was originally 26 inches

I was thinking cutting it at the 15 and 3/4 mark

the shotgun is a remington 870 express

I also want to change the stock for a knox or ati stock

so am-I in big big trouble just for thinking doing that in Canada

***NOOOO!!!!! it'll kill babies if you do that!

seriously though YOU cannot cut the barrel to 12" Rules are as follows;

Cut the barrel to a minimum length of 18" for manual and 18.5" for semi auto firearms
The overall length must remain 26" or greater.
If you cut it to less than 18" it will become a prohib and your in big doo doo (re: killing babies :p)

You can however BUY a pre manufactured barrel that is 12" as long as the overall length is 26 you'll still be Non Res. (i know, it makes a sh*t ton of sense right?)

Poor babies!!
Seriously te reason behind all this... Money!
I dont want to spend money on a new barrel. I dont like having barrel laying aroud the house,
Can I still cut it even of it os with vented rib on top of it?

Don't know about the vented barrel ect but I'm not sure if you can cut or if it must be a new barrel that is unmodified. I think its unmodified. Re-registering may be a cash grab but does get you under 18 legally.
Just sell the old barrel if you don't need it pass it off get some cash.

What are you talking about re-registering
Where have you been the last couple month and mostly last week there is no more registry so my question regarding that is what can they do or should I call the CFO of Alberta asking him the best way to deal with this

ugh, I'm new I've only got a few post on here, and yes I have seen that the LGR is done, that is less than a week old keep in mind. Old habits/thoughts die hard.
I still don't think you can cut it since you would be modding the gun, but to use a new barrel isn't viewed the same.
Regardless of the LGR it would likely be seen as creating a prohibited weapon. But honestly I don't really know, I was trying to point you to where you may find the answer.
The second post did say you could buy one, but you wanna cut still, why are you even asking, do as you please.

Dont worry I was only trying to make a silly joke
And I will prob call the CFO to be sure on what is legal and what is not before i do

the answer was posted: you can legally cut it to 457mm (17.99") witout worry. Any shorter and it becomes prohibited. You can swap in a shorter barrel only if it is manufactured at that length by a licensed manufacturer. There are 2 sources for 12.5" barrels in Canada: Dlask Arms Corp and Norinco. NEA should be coming out with one soon as well. For 14" NEA makes one or you would have to buy a Norinco HP9-1 and swap the barrels. You cannot cut these barrels shorter as it will then make them prohibited. Overall length must remain 660mm (26") or greater. Clear as mud? You can sell your barrel on the EE and buy a Dlask ($300) or Norinco ($150) and swap it in. The Norinco barrels dont index quite right, they will be rotated to one side slightly.
